I think the reality is people just bite their tongues around folks on the other side and then retreat to their echo chamber of choice to have their beliefs affirmed later.
I guess I’ll believe this when I see it. I mean, there are scuffles at rallies/protests, but we’re talking the far fringes of either side.

I do agree with your point about social media exacerbating the problem. The other problem is cable news. If we all got our news from the wire services - Reuters, Associated Press, etc. - we’d all be better served.

I work on a college campus. I sometimes wear a hat with an American flag on it. I sometimes wear my John Wayne t-shirt, which also has a flag on it. No one has attacked me. I talk to supposedly leftist professors who tell me they find all of these pronouns they are asked to use, ridiculous.
People are judging millions of Americans from Youtube videos. They are judging an entire profession, professors, by the actions and words of a minority. Don’t cops complain about how they are judged by the actions of a few idiots? How many Youtube videos show cops being dicks or breaking the law? Measure that against how many actual cops there are and take into consideration how many interactions between citizens and police occur everyday.

I am even more convinced now that Trump will sleaze his way out of this one (as he has often done in his Life). The “Counter-Campaign” (IMO); both by the GOP and Conservatives; is proving to be almost “Putin-esque” in it’s ferocity, focus and consistency.
Another disappointing person to me has been AG Barr.
He always has appeared to be a “straight-shooter”, who now has just become a shill for Trump. He lately has looked and sounded like a man who is saying “F*ck it…let me get through this and give me my benefits…”
Even Jeff Sessions had a moment of doing the right thing…even though it cost him his job and has incurred the Eternal Wrath of Trump.
What these idiots don’t realize is that it won’t be a two sided war; there will be at least three. You will have those willing to fight on the left and the right, and those from either side, or no side, who don’t want to fight anyone, and they will have the police and military, i.e., the government on their side.
Im glad for that. Really. But I also know your personal experiences don’t lend credibility or relevance to those of many many others that have experienced the opposite. Just like someone having a favorable interaction with police doesn’t dismiss someone having an unfavourable one with a legit asshole officer.

I had a good college experience as far as professors are concerned. One was even the father of my company commander in Iraq. The students were mostly dumb and caricatures of Revenge of the Nerds types
Have you been attacked by Antifa? People here keep bringing them up and refer to videos but I haven’t seen one person actually say they have personal experience with dealing with Antifa.
So my point is why should I let Youtube form my world view instead of my own experience? I’m not saying Antifa isn’t real but that it seems to be something that is happening in one or two places but Youtube and sources like Breitbart want it to seem like it’s everywhere and running the left and/or democratic party.

They’ve also lavishly funded thousands upon thousands of salafi madrasas worldwide that churn out wannabe terrorists to this day. How many terrorists were radicalized in Saudi Arabia or Saudi-funded mosques?

I think when the media, left and right, give these groups coverage that exaggerates their size and influence, they give them a larger platform to spread their crap than they would otherwise have. They allow them to influence the tone of political discourse. There are legitimate reasons for someone not voting Democrat but Antifa and commie professors shouldn’t be among them.
Let the tribalists fight while the sane among us watch the military wipe out both sides. It would be a good way to reset things.
