The First Bakery Decision

Is this said in the context that somehow people that don’t use restaurants don’t benefit from their existence with it’s overall impact on the economy?

No, and no one has told me about getting sick at any restaurant. Maybe the restaurants are cleaner where I live or my friends have good judgement when eating out.

Will this private certification entity have the power to close down a restaurant that fails? Will it have any enforcement power?

No it doesn’t. The only thing a business has any incentive to do is remain in business.

But you repeat what you quoted.

And how does a business keep its doors open?

No. A business does not necessarily have to do the job it’s paid to do well in order to remain in business. Since we are talking about restaurants, there are plenty that serve crappy food but manage to stay in business.

There are plenty of restaurants that make me ask that very question. Like I said, go to a restaurant in the ghetto.

bruh, those are some of the best restaurants - I went to this soul food place in North Charleston, SC - fuckin’ best southern cooking I’ve ever had.

Also, if you want to engage in a serous conversation stop answer a question with a rhetorical question.

There was no question asked, rhetorically or otherwise.

So you can’t make someone create a good, but if they are in the business of selling such goods you can force them to sell it to anyone, for presumably any legal use.

A satanist walks into an Amish furniture store. Says he needs some new seating for his rituals. While there, he comes across a nice coffee table and comments to the owner that this will work great for his sacrifices. The Amish owner can’t refuse service, the furniture was already created.

A florist has worked over time making sure there will be flowers for all memorials after a large shooting by a neo-nazi. A white supremacist walks in and says, “when these dry out, they make great kindling for my cross-burnings. I’ll buy all of them.” The florist can’t refuse service, the arrangements were already created.

How does this apply to the hairdresser, the photographer, or the caterer? This is a dumb decision that does not address the issue of religious liberty at all. It seems the judge merely found a loophole to avoid the larger issue at hand. I hope the SC decision turns out better.

Because they are the equivalent of being gay.

Fair enough … wasn’t a rhetorical. But pretty broad and completely skirts the question…care to elaborate how this addresses how a business keeps its doors open?

I already answered; it does it by doing whatever is possible and necessary to keep those doors open. This does not require it does its job well. It certainly doesn’t mean it has to do that job better than a competitor.

@polo77j @zecarlo

I think what zecarlo means is:
“There are plenty of restaurants I don’t like and would prefer shut down. I believe I am better, or at least more knowledgeable, than the people that eat in them, and do not believe those people should be allowed to choose for themselves. I know that I would be helping those people by shutting down those restaurants.”

You call it an answer I call it a deflection … but hey, suit yourself

I’m starting to get that from him too

Not exactly. I couldn’t care less if they were shut down but I am amazed (well, not anymore) that they manage to attract customers when the food is terrible, the service poor or the inside is dirty. But I suppose you have loved every restaurant you have stepped foot in.

Have you guys ever actually worked in a restaurant? Not like in a corporate handled McDonald’s but in a restaurant that’s legitimately subject to the health department?

Is already SUPER easy to get away with all kinds of shit. It’s not super far-fetched to be worried about the quality when moved to a free market solution, especially considering how ungodly expensive it would be to make that move.

OK, one way is to offer a cheaper but not better product. Now, is the restaurant that sells cheaper food also saying the reason why it is cheaper is because it is of lower quality? No, it is saying it is cheaper as well as high quality. So that is a restaurant not doing it’s advertised job well, that is selling high quality food.
