The APA was indeed hijacked and anyone who has even a modicum of fairness can see that.

I like how correction of theory and application = hijacked. The APA would have changed its stance regardless of gay lobbying, since there was no real evidence of a deviancy. Deviancy tests were not showing anything, gays referring to there partners as “partners” and not women or men were passing all their tests, and at the end when they mention they’re gay, oh well now youre insane and deviate even though my test could not prove this.

Everything the APA has ever originally believed is right.
Every change of idea is a hijack.

Good point, and fully agreed with your last point. Forlife’s patience is admirable.

If you want to read up on the science, just check Forlife’s or my own posting history - we’ve been at this point many times before. Unfortunately, someone else also always then quotes NARTH (I’ve done a quite detailed analysis in posts about a year ago on why they don’t count in the scientific debate), and then people start criticising Forlife for his personal life choices using some awful anti-gay puns (check out Mick28s posting history). That’s when the civilised debate normally ends, and some posters show why it’s rather the homophobic (yes, I use the word with impunity, as does the CDC) agenda than the alleged homosexual one most societies need to fear.

The fear and hatred on this thread is sickening. And all for something that has no impact on their own lives.

The saddest part is that even if the gays got recognition from all governments as equal under the law, with the same rights and protections as straight couples, they’d still have to deal with the hate of a fairly sizable minority.

Some people just need to hate others I guess, the reason matters little.

And all the Bible thumpers who never got to Jesus’ “judge not” commandment; nor understood his message of acceptance of all - sinners, whores, criminals, lepers - are the most laughable hypocrites of all. I guess reading past Leviticus is too much work… Why bother anyway when you already have all the god-backing you need to justify your hatred, right?

I read your post, and all I see is powerful lobbying. It is amazing what people can accomplish in the face of true injustice isn’t it? I don’t see a hijack, or subversion, or underground movement, I see a straight up in-your-face calling out of what is wrong.

So if this supposed “hijacking” happened 26 years ago now, where is Dr. Bayer’s field of work to prove that homosexuality is in fact a disease? If he so believed that homosexuality is an illness he has had plenty of time to scientifically present his case. Furthermore; where are the original studies that come to the conclusion homosexuality is a disease?

If you think that Dr. Bayer hasn’t come up with any data for fear of political fallout then he should have his license revoked for looking out for his own skin over those he has taken an oath to heal.

Thanks, the one thing I’ll say for Mick is that at least his hatred isn’t hidden behind cherry picked statistics and quotations from the bible. He is a blatant bigot, and makes no bones about it.

How does that remotely address anything that I wrote?

It is a known fact that bigots have historically quoted from the bible to support slavery and discrimination against blacks. They used their bible like a club, and felt fully justified in doing so. They truly believed that god considered them superior to blacks, and that it was justified to deny black men the right to marry white women.

The point is that bigots can, and do, use their bible to justify bigotry and discrimination. The bible has been used to justify racism, the bible has been used to justify misogyny, and the bible has been used to justify homophobia. And people are 100% sincere in their belief that god supports them in their discrimination.
