i am getting a complete physical next week and it includes some blood work. i would like to know what would be the best tests to find out what my testosterone levels really are. would it be total test or free test? any and allinfo would be appreciated. thank you.

Free test would tell you how much you have “bioavailable” to work on your receptors. Total test would include whatever testosterone is bound to your sex hormone binding globulin as well as free test. The cool thing to do is to get both, so you know exactly what’s going on with your levels. I have to tell you though, bro, testosterone levels aren’t really part of a physical exam, at least in my neck of the woods. Did the doc say he was going to order them? Usually we’ll do a chemistry profile and a blood count as part of a physical. That’s pretty basic stuff lab-wise. Hormone levels are a whole other ballgame in terms of laboratory procedures and whatnot.
