See, this is the kind of dangerous attitude that causes all sorts of problems for the U.S. If we turn our backs on our allies when we should be gaining their support and trust, we put ourselves into a bad position… just like we are now with Iraq. If any kind of substantial U.S. military presence is required anywhere else in the world right now, we are fucked. Our troops are spread too thin as it is.

We can’t afford to tell our allies that we’ll just do what we want and then expect their support when we really need it. That was my biggest problem with our decision to invade Iraq.

And btw, dvldog, you’re quick to point out Clinton’s record, but let’s not forget where Bush was when Kerry was over there fighting.[/quote]

I agreed Kerry went over there and served honoroably. I also think you misunderstood my point on “America is the greatest country the world has ever seen”

My point is we can do whatever we want in our OWN country, be it protest a war, have our own religon, say whatever we want. Here is a question for you:
How would you feel if Iraq would have orchestrated an attack like 9/11?

I am glad that Bush had the balls to do what the 1st Bush and Clinton didn’t do and for that matter any of the presidents before them going all the way back to Jimmy Carter and Reagan. A few missiles here and there really didn’t solve the problem did it?

Bush was at least in the Guard! Now lets talk about where Clinton was if you want. There were alot of people that joined the guard at that time, wouldn’t you agree?

dvldog, if I misinterpreted your post, my apologies. I suppose I’ve just gotten used to the America-can-do-what-it-wants mentality and assumed that was what you were saying. (BTW, I agree with you that America is the greatest.)

As for how I would feel in Iraq orchestrated the 9/11 attack (or something like it), I would say a large scale retaliation is certainly in order. That’s why I supported our invasion of Afghanistan after 9/11.

But had it actually been Iraq that attacked us, it probably would have been an easier decision all around since it would have been a country, as opposed to some rouge terrorists group, that we could set our sites on.

As for those who join the ranks of any military outfit, they all have my respect. But since you zeroed in on Clinton’s lack of war experience, I thought I would remind you of what Bush was doing during those days.
