Guys, no point arguing over design of a product that isn’t in development, yet.

I agree it would be a GREAT idea, and I hope the TP and TC’s out there are reading this thread. No doubt that the design of the shaker (IF there ever IS one) will be whatever they think is best (TC is liable to have us shaking our Grow! in a used condom if it’s up to him).

Whatever they decide, I’m down to buy a couple of 'em.

Another vote for the leak resistant screw-type tops.

Screw on lids ONLY. Particularly screw-on lids with the rubber gasket in the top. The tumbler needs to be at the very least semi-transparent in order to see the fluid and the graduations at the same time. [/quote]

I completely disagree with the screw-on lids. Every screw-on lid that I’ve had (even WITH the rubber gasket) have LEAKED! I buy them for my business and pass them out as gifts of appreciation. There is only one shaker bottle that I’ve found to be absolutely leak free and it is designed by Buchsteiner (ex. http://www.shakercup.com.au/ ).

These are superior shakers and have never leaked. I’ve had two of them for just over four years, and they have stood up to the dishwasher for all these years.

I have bought about 10 different kinds of screw-on lids with rubber gaskets, and EVERY single one of them have leaked either immediately or after a few runs through the dishwasher.

I think this is a great idea and would buy one, even if it was a screw lid, and I would probably buy several if it was a Buchsteiner design.

I can’t tell much about the Buchsteiner design from the their web site. Does this shaker have a pop on lid with gasket?

I’ve used several shakers over the years. For a while I was using the free shakers that came when I ordered from places online (similar to the $2-3 ones from GNC). The lids screw on and have a gasket, but they often leak where the lid attaches to the body. I don’t think there is enough treading and the plastic is too soft to tightly attach the lid. GNC also has a more expensive shaker (~$5) with their pro performance elite series logo on it. It also has a screw on lid with a gasket. The design (treading and plastic) seems better. I’ve not had a problem with these shakers leaking and currently own four of them.

I carry these things with me everywhere (work, gym, &c.) and would prefer to replace my GNC logo-ed bottles with ones that have a T-Nation (or Biotest) logo.

This was the image I tried to post earlier, but I must have had compatability issues.

I agree that most screw-top shakers are garbage, but this type of bottle is superb. It has a screw-top lid, rubber gasket, mesh grate, and NEVER leaks. Ever. At one time, these were everywhere, but now, I can only find them online.

I have had some luck with the Mixboy cup that JackZeppelin mentioned. However, the top has to be applied perfectly in order to avoid leakage. I found that my cups would warp over time and not fit flush with the top.

Just a personal observation/experience…

I disagree with the screw-on as well. I have an old ProLab snap-on top shaker bottle that has never leaked on me in 4 years. Of course I always wash it by hand in the sink and not the dishwasher. Screw-on lids last a little longer when you toss em in the dishwasher but eventually the “rubber gasket” will warp or come loose and disappear and then the things are worthless. A quality snap on lid will keep on keeping on if you wash it by hand.

The shaker you have pictures looks IDENTICAL to the 100 that I bought for clients. It was the biggest piece of junk of them all (if it is the same one). Let’s just say that I’ve had a lot of upset clients with chocolate stains on their shirts or elsewhere.

As for the mixboy cups designed by Buchsteiner, I’ve washed them in the dishwasher literally hundreds of times over the last four or five years and have never had warped lid. Furthermore, the lid simply snaps on and works great.

I’ve had a gasket actually come loose and work it’s way into my dishwasher motor (without my noticing) and ruin a brand new dishwasher. Fortunately, my dishwasher was under warranty and the service man was clueless as to what the little white rubber piece was. He knew that it came off of something and I knew exactly what it was, but I played dumb. It was a rubber gasket from my cheap ass screw on lids.

Terumo -

That is EXACTLY the same shakers we have. They have never leaked a single time. And the mesh screen inside works great as well. Never had a lumpy shake.

I had a great idea for the bottles, shaker or not.

The color of the bottle out to be black as already mentioned. But the logo ought to be put on with matte black. So shiney bottle, dull black logo. Its kind of like that whole Metallica black album thing. Plus when you got the bottle filled up with Grow! or something, you’ll see the logo better. And it will subtlely disappear while you drink it.

What do you think of that idea? That would be one tough looking bottle imo.

Although that picture looks exactly like the bunch that I bought for clients, you MUST have a different bottle than I. Every single one, right out of the wrapper, has leaked significantly. In order for them NOT to leak, you have to keep them free of liquid. As a matter of fact, I won’t even hand them out to clients anymore. I’ve still got about 20 or so that you can HAVE free of charge (you pay the shipping). I’m embarrased for my clients to have gotten these things from me and am shy to even give away shaker bottles anymore. The only one I have ever found to work great is the Buchsteiner design. It has a mesh screen as well and mixes very well.

I have to believe that we’re talking about two different shakers that look alike, because I swear that every single screw-on type I’ve had from multiple vendors has been junk. If you got lucky, I’d gladly try it out and see how it works under “vigorous” shaking.

The shaker in Terumo’s post looks just like the free ones I’ve had problems with (except mine had a white top that matched the body). I’ve had several of these and the story was the same for each. It’s possible the design of the interface is different for Terumo’s and Rainjack’s…

Here’s a pic of the shakers that I’ve had good results with.

We must have different shakers than the one’s you are handing out. Mine are over 4 years old, get used almost daily - and have never leaked once.

But you can keep your crappy ones - if it’s all the same to you.
