I understand all of that as I’m a recovering opiate addict myself and have had surgery without opiates because of it. I can tell you from experience that it’s not better. Maybe it depends on what you’re having done but not getting decent sleep because of pain really sucks. I literally just went through this. I’m not going to go into what surgery I had but I can tell you having done both myself I would definitely take the opiates while recovering and feel my recovery would have benefitted from it. We all have to try and see for ourselves though. Good luck with surgery and I wish you a happy recovery. You know you better than I do.
Maybe something like buprenorphine (not an opiate) that is used for pregnant women during labor could be a possible option? Anyways good luck brother.
