Stuff Black People Like

Ha! Someone made a parody thread of MY thread! MY original thread (about someone else’s blog). Allow me to BASK in my obscure forum 10-seconds of fame!

Personally, I think both threads are funny. I can’t dance for shit, and I’m sure BigBoss likes Purple.

The “stuffwhitepeoplelike” blog is seriously one of the funniest things I have ever seen. This thread is like a slow-motion train wreck from Mr. Rogers’ neighborhood. Lixy and ProfX have made extremely good points in this thread though, which does add to it’s value.

The last surviving black slaves died in the 50’s or 60’s which isn’t that long ago. This means that many black Americans alive today actually knew slaves. IMO many (if not most) urban Americans are eager to put our sordid past behind us.

Part of that process is acknowledging that American blacks have been and STILL are mistreated in many parts of this country, and that sad fact isn’t funny. It’s not that I can’t laugh at the seemingly ridiculous habits of some of my black neighbors, it’s that I can’t be indignant about making fun of white folks.

Maybe I misinterpreted the intent of this thread, but it really came off as artless and not very humorous. I’m not indicting anyone and I’m quite sure that every single poster that contributed to this thread probably has the same wish as me and hopes for an end to the needless hatred in this country. It just didn’t come out quite right here…

‘Closet?’ What closet?

It was funny when it was still about mommas and sugary drinks.

No like I have said previously this thread contained some very negative and racist stereotypes, which is bang out of order, but sometimes to make the point of your argyment you need to take your argument to the extreme.

This thread = VERY WRONG

The white thread = nowhere near as wrong but still wrong

Careful EE: he’ll soon have the flames going and you’ll be Bull Conner unleashing the dogs on the marchers. If only you lived in Alabama…

Black people definitely like water balloons.

…which should prove to you that we have not reached “equality” yet. So, then, why do you compare some comedian’s joking reference to how some white guy speaks (which is happening less and less lately) to the perception that “black people” in general all fit into the most basic aspects of their culture?

Which one do you think has the most negative influence on a culture or group of people socially?

Do you think the average white person might be denied a job based on the fact that Chris Rock made a joke about how they can’t dance?

Do you think the average black person may experience some difficulties in that arena if the perception is that they let their kids starve while they buy Cadillac rims?

One causes more harm than the other. Which one do you think that is?
Like I said, this thread was a bad idea and poorly thought out

I could have told you that before you started it. I doubt any minorities are surprised at how this thread went at all. That is why no one is really offended.

I am a little surprised that this is a shock to you, however.

Here it comes…

My partner is black and she likes none of the things mentioned so far. She likes watermelons but then so do I and i am white

She doesn’t like washcloths?

In spite of initiating this thread, I don’t think EE is racist. I’ve read his posts on other threads and he’s been obvious about his stance against racism.

Sometimes the line between humorous and offensive gets easily crossed by those whose tenancies are rather racist.

I don’t think ee is a racist. A bit of a tosspot and occasionally a wanker, but not a racist.

I ‘tipped my mitt’ too soon to the Prof. He was starting to get his racist paranoia going and I messed it up. Ah well, EE is a good guy and having him grilled by the Prof Police wouldn’t have been nice.

Hi, I read the post as well. I’m new and I sort of think stereo typing people like this isn’t very nice. I like your posts because I’ve read some of them. But this one is a lil mean. :frowning:

That was the idea behind the thread, it wa meant to be offensive.

There was a recent article in the mainstream media ‘what white people like’

I thought you started this post because you saw this:
http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.com/ It’s hilariously true! 90% of the time, anyways. Which makes it totally true, as we all know that 90% is as good as 100%…

That’s why I started the thread yes.

I did not like that article, why is it funny to stereotype white people but racist to stereotype black people?

I think we shouldn’t stereotype any race white, black, yellow, funny, nasty or any which way round you want to do it.

On the other hand I am very open minded and easy going so I can accept stereotyping of my race as long as other people accept it of their race.

This thread actually really proved me wrong, I expected a barrage of opposition to stereotyping blacks, to which I would have asked, well how come you/we accept the stereotyping of white people then, why did you not complain about that thread too?

In fact nobody really seemed to be that offended by this thread and that’s a good thing I guess.
Well now that the forum proved you wrong, you want to try and see that there isn’t a double standard and let the others know.

Maybe just maybe black people have reasons for calling people who are racist against us racist.
