Start TRT and/or Taper Off Thyroid?

@bcostigan41 - my doctor suggested to drop the armour and see how I felt. I’d say that how I felt 8/6 and now are pretty similar.

My fear with the thyroid is back in 2018, my weight got unmanageable and it was a long road to get it back in order. While I feel good now, I’d hate for this problem to sneak up on me again.

How were you feeling on these two prescriptions? The numbers (ratio) alone are fine.

Reverse T3 dropped because you have less T4 to convert to rT3.

Relative to taking your dose, when was your blood drawn?

@highpull -

I felt good on the two perscriptions. I wouldn’t say I feel significantly different now.

I get that the reverse t3 dropped since I wasn’t supplementing with T4 anymore. But my question is given the new numbers of 2.4 free T3/6.7 Rev T3, is this BETTER than the previous 3.9 free T3/15.6 Rev T3? The ratio is higher, but I’m confused if this is better, given the free T3 dropped a good amount. And with the Rev T3 being below the given range, is that at all an issue?

The recent lab test was done on 11/13/19 at 8am. The day prior to the lab, I took 35mcg T3 at 6am, and 10mcg T3 at 3pm. I didn’t take the 35mcg the morning I was getting blood drawn.

Also - The Doc suggests that it may be the T3 supplementation that is disrupting my sleep. She suggested dropping the afternoon T3 dose. This would leave me at only the 35mcg morning dose. Thoughts?

No.

If you get through your day feeling fine, OK. If not, go back to the original rx. That’s the rationale for T3/T4 combo or NDT or armour thyroid, keep that T4 up for conversion to T3 so you have some after the T3 morning dose is metabolized.

That explains it. This is why some doctors want to see thyroid labs 2-4 hours after the morning dose.

Thanks @highpull for the input.

What is still unclear to me is am I okay to taper off the cytomel and maintain a good functioning thyroid? The doctor’s e-mail just came in and she is actually recommending 20mcg in the morning, and that’s it. Previously I was 45mcg for the day (35mcg in morning, 10mcg in afternoon) . I’m still confused if I should be going off of Free T3 value for an idea on the state of my thyroid, or Free T3 to Reverse T3 ratio? With the current Reverse T3 being 6.7, that would mean the Free T3 could be under 1.5 and still be considered okay?

Also, she feels dropping the Cytomel in the afternoon will fix my sleep. Thoughts/experiences on this?

I couldn’t say without labs drawn following your morning dose. Regardless, I’d focus more on how I was feeling and less on the lab numbers.
