Only for one day of the year, the pints are green!

I’ve still never seen green pints over here, just the traditional piss-poor parade through the local town and I tend to associate Paddy’s day more with teenagers 15-15 year olds acting hammered after two cans than anyhting else really

Yup, got a few bout last couple of march 17th’s in cork…

if ya can’t shamrock shakes in mcdonalds mixed with vodka is the next best thing!!

I was just talking about Shamrock Shakes this morning. Best part of the year, if you ask me.

Anyone remember the custard pies that had around Christmas one year? No one seems to remember. I’ll never forget.
Yup, gotta agree.

Dnt remember the custard pies, but here at xmas some shops jus have a basket of mince pies at the checkout for the takin…sweet!

I hate mince pies, but when there free!!

Oh my god I feel like shit today. Goddamn you John Jameson, goddamn you…

Nice choice, my friend, nice choice.

My great-grandfather was from Ireland. He came to America and married a black woman. My grandpa was born with redhair, freckles, and black skin. Man he looked funny, bless his soul.

No one remembers the custard pies. They were amazing. They had little sprinkles on them and everything.

People are always telling me I made them up, but they’re real I tells ya.

I married a real Irishman. He’s about as straight as they come. I drink far more. People underestimate the repression they feel. The real Irish I mean.

I’m still teaching him to drive and to swim. To look people in the eye when he speaks. You think they are a nation of drinking fools, but they are a nation of writers and singers from so far back.

Born from repression. So far forward, but so far back just the same. Lovely. Irish is beauty.

Eh…? I don’t feel repressed. Like every other Irish person I love to beat the English in everything we can(especially rugby :D), but otherwise you’re taking all that jazz way too seriously…

Molotov:
This repression shit is a bit stupid to be hearing bout all the time. Sure, we sometimes look forward to playing the English more than others but that has arse-all to do with repression!
And I don’t know what swimming and learning to look ppl in the eye ha to do with being Irish but anywho…

and Jereth:
do ya - cork is a good spot to go out for paddy’s day allright. Used to get the green pints in the Western star, but due to some mostrosity that is closed now. I would think the Thirsty would be the best spot for the green pints, or I would think Bob Fox’s would be a good spot to spend the day this year…
What the hell? How does repressed translate to looking forward to playing the English? I did not mean with regard to the English whatsoever, even if that’s what you automatically take it to be. Whether in sport or otherwise. Fuck that. Soz for the mistranslation.

I’m saying nothing but honest here. You were taught things, and least of it all was repression. Fuck you if you don’t agree, I think that’s denial worse than all. What’s it got to do with looking in the eye? Alot. Everything actually.

I suppose you’re right, you would know more about being Irish and feeling the ‘‘repression’’ we obviously feel more than us…

Well, it’s finally fucking here, my holiday of holidays, my favorite time of the year, St Patrick’s Month.

In NJ, every town has a parade, and because the day often falls during the week, many of them are over the course of the next two weeks. And today it begins, so there’s no doubt that I’m going to be drowning in streams of Jameson by about 3 oclock today.

Anyone else love this fucking holiday?

WE just had Mardi Gras. You guys are slow.
Yeah you right!! And the Irish-Italian Parade for St. Patty’s day is always a blast in NOLA!
rock27 wrote:
That’s the one thing I hate about st.paddy’s day - everybody claims Irish roots on the day…it wud be like me claiming to be chinees on chinees new year each year.
Fair ebought if ppl want to part-take, but some go too far…
I don’t claim to be Irish on St. Paddy’s Day, or Chinee on Chinese New Year, but I do love a good excuse for a party.

So, Poag Ma Hoan (sp) and Hung Kee Fat Choi !!

[i]The bagpipes, the music, and the church services should not be drowned with copius amounts of Irish whiskey, but more with the memories of all of those who have come before us.

It’s for of all the sons of Erin who came over to this strange new place, covered in fleas and dying of starvation, and built this country up by the labour of their hands and the force of their will. It’s for all those who stepped up and carved out their little corner of the American Experiment.

For all of them who stepped straight into the Civil War, and fought to end a form of slavery that mirrored their own oppression in the Old Country.

For those who owned liquor stores and bars in Jersey City, for those who became the first Catholics elected to positions it was thought only a born American could have. For those who got on the big boats and sailed to France, and slept in sodden trenches while working the artillery in the Great War (slainte’, James Lynch).

For those who loaded up again 20 years later, and fought in every theater of the war that nearly ended the world.

It’s for Jack Dempsey and JFK and Mickey Featherstone, the Molly Maguires and Micky Ward and every O’ or Mc who ever wore a policeman’s badge in any city. It’s for every union leader that ever fought for his workers, and for the Paddy Murphy and the Dead Rabbits and the 69th New York. It’s for every firefighter from 9/11 whose only remains were in the form of the countless claddagh rings found in the rubble.

It’s for all of us who share that common ancestry, who came here long ago or just yesterday, but share the blood of that small, green island that defeated one empire and helped to build another.

To all of you- slainte’.

But of course… some whiskey don’t hurt.

I had to resue this thread from the 3rd page? I hope it is because everyone is busy having fun. Cheers.

Things to like about this holiday, gorgeous strong men in kilts, green beer and Irish nachos

Kilt’s on parade

Well, fellas, I’ll send you a toast now because I’ve probably only got another couple of hours before I’m completely drunk.

Up the Republic, but here’s to peace over there…

And also, in the spirit of St. patrick’s, here’s the Stick Death Whiskey in the Jar video.

It’s fucking wonderful. Story of my life…

You guys are making me want to celebrate but I have a basketball game at 8 and work at 6 Wed. morning.

Cheers you Irish bastards - take a few down for Mickey!
