I take it you’re a kin? You can still do a lot of different things, if you’re willing to do 1-2 years more school…
-Ergonomics: Very good money and job security, increasing demand.
-Prosthetics/Orthotics: Another 2 years of school. Probably one of the most rewarding career fields I can think of
-Dietician/Nutritionist: Ask Bricknyce about this…
-Chiropody: Can make great money, but your salary depends on how many pairs of custom orthotics you can sell, and you have to deal with some sick shit like diabetic foot debridement…
-Chiropractic: In Canada I wouldn’t go anywhere near this, don’t know if it’s any better in the states…
-Occupational Therapy: Increasing demand, not that hard to get into OT school, very worthwhile career
I agree; physical therapy and occupational therapy are very good fields to get into. With OT, you probably will never be out of a job.
thanks for the advice! I am about to graduate in December with a kin degree, i was planning on taking a year off to see what kind of jobs were available before applying to grad school, but if there are no worthwhile jobs with only a BS, maybe i should be thinking about grad school a little sooner?
Do any of those career paths interest you? If so, I would start looking for schools which train you for them as soon as possible. Or, take a year off (“Gap Year” as the brits call it), travel around, work part-time…whatever…until you find what it is you really want to do.
With a lot of the careers I mentioned, if you don’t absolutely love the work you’ll go insane.
Haha, me too awesome! I graduated last year. Yeah spot on with the hippies lol.
Cool! Small world. What residence did you live in? I actually miss Guelph a lot…hippies aside its a pretty cool little town that has managed to preserve its idenity.
I used to work at Van Gogh’s Ear. Easiest bouncing job ever because most of the people on the 2nd and 3rd floors were on ecstacy and spent most of the time hugging each other and sharing water bottles.
I’ve heard from people that the Trashateria is gone? Was sad to hear that. Seeing Propagandhi playing there was one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended

I lived in South Residence and it was a blast! The funnest year of my life without a doubt. I was a fan of Frankenstein’s, and never heard of Trashateria so it probably hasn’t existed for a while. Guelph was fun but I’d never go back. I grew up in Scarborough, def prefer the big city than the small town.

Do you remember Carden St? That late-night Chinese restaurant “Sun-Suns” where the phrase “please apply sauce liberally to my balls” was acceptable? The Trashateria was right next to it. It was a dingy little place, with the walls painted black, but someone it attracted a lot of big Canadian musicians who should have been playing in bigger venues…

Haha nope, the place next to Sun Sun’s was a small dingy place called Vinyl. Maybe it just changed names. There was band playing there every night it seemed (http://www.vinyljimmyjazz.com/)
I couldn’t understand why anyone would want to eat Sun Sun’s after a night of drinking. It would just make you 10x more dehydrated, and feel waaaay worse the next morning.
Also, you have a vivid memory… I haven’t been back since graduation last June and I had to think real hard about where Carden Street was.

I appreciate it, even though I’ll PROBABLY never apply to any of them. Just finished a degree in Kinesiology so I’m interested to see job opportunities that are at least sort of related to the field, in case my current plan doesn’t work out. I’m sure there’s gotta be others interested on this site, even if they don’t post.
Take it from a fellow Kin grad, there isn’t that much you can do with just a kinesiology degree. It’s a great jumping board to physio, chiropractic, strength coaching, nutrition, etc, but on it’s own it’s not worth that much. I used to see job postings for “Kinesiologist” which basically makes you the gopher of a physiotherapist, or you could try for pharma/medical sales (which is what I did), but not all that much else. Will you be pursuing further education?
(out of curiosity, where’d you graduate…Guelph? Waterloo?)
I graduated from UWO, trying to go the phys ed teacher route, start teacher’s college next week. Just hoping I can find a job relatively soon after.
