Speakers Off The Street?

Some guy sold me two Theater Logic T 2400L floor speakers for 95$.
I think they were stolen.
He showed me a picture of them in a catalog, and they were over 2000$ each.

Did I get a deal?

did he seem slippery?

Yea but they’re stolen

You got a better deal than the bloke he nicked them from did.

Yo, that shit is hot!

Chances are that they’re not stolen but rather cheap knockoffs with inferior equipment inside. Pretty common scam.

Cons don’t work on honest people.

Do they function?

I do not have the cords to hook them up, so I took a 9 volt battery and connected both sides to one of the connecters, and it makes static noise.

“They present themselves very well and are very believable. They show delivery invoices, business cards to look very legitimate. Then they show you speakers they describe as high-end speakers worth well over $1000 per pair. They justify this claim with colorful ads in audiophile magazines or slick brochures listing a very high retail price. Even the web sites displayed prominently on the box justify the high price for the speakers. When the potential buyer begins to walk away, the driver then asks what the person is willing to pay for the “high-quality” speakers. Buyers have paid anywhere from $200-$1000 for a pair, thinking they made a great deal. The drivers have commonly been known to ask for extra “beer money” for giving the buyers such a great deal.”

Suckaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Nope, doesn’t sound like the guys I dealt with. I just hooked the speakers up to my TV, and everything seems to work. These guys came across as very unprofessional just looking to make some fast cash, and sell as many speakers as possible. He said he worked for this company called like “world audio” or something, and he had some left over ones he needed to get rid of fast.

I know 2 guys who fell for that scam. It used to be very popular in Germany and Austria about 10 years back.

Sorry,
Makkun

It is a scam and the speakers are essentially worthless. The drivers are garbage and half are probably what are termed as ‘passive’ drivers. But, if you are happy with the speakers and with what you paid for them, then that is all that really counts. The fact that you got ripped off shouldn’t really bother you.

This is a classic scam this was happening around here a few yrs back this truck would pull up and some guys in coverall would slide the back up and there were all these perfectly boxed high end speakers theyd give you some story about making some money on the side they’d crack open a box and yep sure as shit there would be a speaker in side they might even pull it out for you but when you get them home cause you can’t plug them in on the street you find a empty wooden cabinet with a cinder block at the bottom.

lol, whatever. The speakers sound great, and I think even if it was a scam, I came out much further ahead than behind.

if they work at all you got your money’s worth. i mean how much is $95 these days anyway …a tank and 1/2 of gas ?

Sounds like the same guys that approched me about 6 months ago. I already had speakers and had never heard of the brand they were trying to give me a sceaming deal on. I told them no and they just couldn’t believe I would pass it up. I felt like I was being set up and if I said yes some cops were gonna jump outta the van and arrest me or something crazy like that.

How much are these speaker online? I have been trying to look, but I can not find them.

Nobody would sell $2000 speakers for $95. Period!

It’s a scam.

There are better ways to check the sound quality and amperage rating of speakers than connecting them to a 9V battery.

Find a good audiophile website and ask around there.

A real good car audio site is http://www.clubknowledge.com/Car_Audio_FAQ/forum/

They may know a lot about home audio too, or have some good sites that do.

I consider that site to be like the T-Nation of the car audio world. Very good info, and it’s free.
