srly though, i have always been envious of people that can just fall asleep on their backs easily. Good way to not look at the ceiling for 30 minutes is to not go to bed until you’re tired. If I lift I go to bed and sleep for 7.5-9 hours. If I don’t, I can do 4.5 and be fine.
I have been using melatonin for a years now and it helps (as HG said). I also need an absolutely black room. Lately I find that I sleep much deeper also wearing earplugs. If you don’t have to use an alarm, I recommend a good long pair of ear plugs.
The half-time can vary very much from each individual. Some say up to 8 hours, most say a little less. If you have a lot of caffeine in the middle of the day or early evening there might still be copious amounts in your blood disrupting your sleep and keeping you from getting into deep sleep.
If you have a large cup of coffee and an energy drink (with 300mg total) at say 3 pm. and go to bed at 10pm. then potentially there could still be 150 mg. in your blood an hour after you’ve went to bed. That will definitely disrupt your sleep.
People think they are all right to drink coffee in the early evening or late afternoon because they can fall asleep. But its more about your quality of sleep. (i.e. REM and deep sleep is needed).
Personally I only have caffeine in the morning now. It has helped tremendously with my sleep.
Mix it with training late at night (keeping your CNS firing), looking into a computer screens (brain thinks it’s still daylight) or tv before bed and you’re begging not to get quality sleep.
