Laptops are less relevant nowadays (not irrelevant) because people have shifted several tasks to handheld devices.

There are several tasks I’d rather reach for my iPhone over my macbook pro nowadays.

Free Charlie!
runs
I had one this time last year and sold it by October, I hated the fucking thing. Great screen but it’s cumbersome and frankly irritating after you get over the novelty

I’ve never really seen the attraction myself…especially for reading materials:
Because:
A) Kindle books always etc seem to be much more expensive than actual boooks.
B) I like the smell, feel, size etc of a real book.
C) How many books does one really need at any given time? I know when I read novels etc, I stick to one at a time. With reference books it’s a lil different, though, having ALL of your books stored on ONE device isn’t anywhere near as awesome as having all of your music etc on one elderberry whatnot!!
It’s all just a big silly fashion statement IMHO.

No more room for books.
Plenty of room in my computer.

Bitch please.
I would only recommend an iPad to a woman, they fit nicely in a purse and being generally less tech savy they will benefit more from a simpler device with only 1 button.

Put it this way. I hadn’t read a book in many years until I got a Kindle. Ever since then I have read more books on my Kindle than I have in my whole life. It just makes reading much more convenient. I don’t even have to leave home to get a book I like. In fact, I don’t usually pay for them anyways. Lets pretend i’m just sharing the books like a library does.
Also, why do I want a bunch of books laying around my place. I live in a small place and have limited space.

I’m a software engineer but I love such simple shiny things
I have a playbook though (and an iPhone, and ipod and a gazillion other shiny devices with only a button or two )
I bought my father-in-law one when he was in the hospital and he had a lot of trouble getting it going at first but now he’s figured out the interface he does love it. I got him the iPad because I thought it would have the most apps. We got him a kindle too but he’s taken to the iPad more lately.

I have the IPad with the kindle app and the nook app. Plus I can do my work with emails etc. I love mine cause now I dont have to take my lap top on business trips and if I finish a book its 3 seconds to find and get another one. I didnt get it for the trend I got it for all the things I use it for.
