Should I Buy a Pickup Truck?

For 25k I bought a C5 Corvette and an Acura 1.6EL, I’ll never understand truck folks unless they’re actually using them for their intended purpose. Most trucks I see around here are red F150s with Ferrari badges on them and clean as shit. Trucks should be dirty with huge tries and 5000 feet off the ground.
My biggest concern with having a vehicle like the Vett would be retaining my license. That and I have a 70mile round trip deer guantlet to drive through to get to work. Trucks > cars when it comes to deer.

I’ve got a 130 lb saint bernard who wouldn’t fit in your Vette or the Acura and certainly not with my wife and son too. Also neither of those vehicles can haul my motorcycle to the racetrack on the weekends. The Vette also doesn’t haul camping gear and allow me to sleep in the back when it starts pouring rain and water starts rolling through (don’t ask me…).

As far as jacked up trucks, ever tried to load a 400lb race bike into the back of a jacked up truck? Also how would my dog climb in the back or how would my 5yo son get into the cab? There’s a lot less practicality with a raised truck than one in standard trim. And my truck can still do some decent off-roading.

It is amazing how much difference even a little height gain makes. My last truck was not a 4x4 and this one is. I now have a hard time reaching over the bedrail to get things inside the bed where I never had an issue before.

Yeah, I could totally see that. I wouldn’t want to have a really jacked up truck because the utility for me would drop off dramatically.

Yea I’m the same. I’ve got 2" lift in mine just cause I drive in some really really rough roads and it helps a lot. But anything more than that would just be a pain in the ass to deal with all the time. I’ve never understood the “show truck” mentality, but to each their own.

Oh, and pics please. I’ve never seen a truck with a Ferrari badge and this would be the place where I would expect to see it.

I did have a friend with a super jacked up truck that got to put it to good use. He was sitting in a parking lot and some kid was screwing around and lost control of his car. He hit my buddys truck in the side, the truck bounced up in the air and came down across the kids hood. The kid got out of the car freaking out and told my buddy to call the cops and a wrecker.

My friend just said “I don’t need a wrecker” started up his truck and drove over the kids hood just like something out of monster trucks.

Well you’re using it for a proper purpose, I’m not putting them down. Just a lot of people I know buy a truck and never use it for anything and I just don’t get it. Just seems like a huge waste of gas for no reason at that point. I

Next time I see one and I’m not driving I promise to take a pic, it’s way more common than it should be. It seems to be an Italian thing.

But people are going to drive what they like. You could say that owning a Corvette is a waste if you’re not going to autocross it. I can’t tell you the number of Porsche’s and BMW’s I pass on twisty roads because the owners don’t know how to drive them. And that’s in the truck. The amount I pass on the bike is, well all of them…lol

I wouldn’t make that comparison, for a single person not hauling shit it’s a pretty practical car, decent on gas and fun when you want it to be. Most people drive their cars like a bitch though. I hate when people are too afraid to play a bit when traffic is light. Not even all out but just a bit. The bike thing is a whole other story, I’ve never driven one but the power of a sport bike must be intoxicating. All that power on something that light and being fully exposed… Wow.

Whatever you get, you can have a lot of fun making it “yours”. Just add your own stereo or put on some Flowmaster exhausts for better sound and improved mileage. You can add some pin striping or any number of things to give it your personal touch. Trucks are fun…I hope you enjoy your purchase for many years.
One of my favorite things I did to my 4.7L Dodge was to throw some stupid custom ass dual cone intake. It was cheap and made it sound SOOOOO good. I thought it would just be funny at first but I grew to love it.

Honestly, for my needs, I’d prefer an SUV over a truck. I loved my old Durango and wish I still had it. I kept a blanket and pillow in the back for if I was incapable of driving or on road trips and I had to towing package so I could pull around my motorcycle.

In regards to jacked up trucks, out here where I live, everyone seems to have mommy/daddy money so they spend all their money jacking up their trucks to touch the sky. I swear, there are 17 year old kids driving around $80k+ trucks. And I think I know maybe a handful of guys at any age that actually do any muddin’ or anything in their lifted trucks. It’s mostly a rich-country thing I guess…

Practical is definitely subjective…lol.

Yes, the bike is amazingly intoxicating. Put it this way, my bike puts 150hp at the wheel and weights about 450 so a power to weight ratio of 3. The ZR1 weighs about 3300 and has 638 which a power to weight of just over 5. Obviously the Vette is better able to control all that power but the electrics of bikes is becoming really sophisticated now.

Sorry for the threadjack.

Yeah it is. If I can fit my dj equipment in then that’s all I need for storage. If you haven’t seen it, check out the Ariel atom v8 vs the bmw something super bike. A short but cool race.
