Shirtless in the Gym

there’s a golf course i go to where not only do you not need a collared shirt but they let you go without a shirt at all.(you may want a helmet though). anyway they charge $24 for as many as you can play, let you bring out your own bevies -and it’s a beautiful thing pullin’ a full sized cooler on a two wheeler- couldn’t care less if you want to hit the back nine first, stay out after dark, or try your luck cooling off with the snapping turtles. now that’s what i’m talking about.
please all you folks on this thread :

STAY THE FUCK AWAY.

thanks.

I don’t see what the big deal is about going shirtless in the gym. In college, I lift in a public facility and over the summer, I lift in my old high school gym, and many times, especially when it’s roasting, I don’t wear a shirt. Why soak a shirt in sweat for no reason? I bring a towel, of course, to wipe off the bench and the bars I use. I also like to see my muscles pump up as I go through a work out, not that I stare incessantly, but I think it’s good to notice the advances in one’s physique. I really find this post moronic. Do men complain about women wearing a sportsbra in the gym? Not likely. Do women complain about guys going shirtless in the gym? Not likely if the guy is cleaning up his sweat after an exercise and not staring at her while drooling. What women complain about other women wearing a sportsbra in the gym? Only the jealous ones. What guys complain about other guys going shirtless in the gym? I think you can each formulate your own answer to that one. I mean, really, are these shirtless guys affecting your lifting career, buddy? Find something else to bitch about.

Shirt off at a commercail gym= disrespectful most people don’t want to see a person like that if they did they’d work out at a beach.

wear your fucking shirt. I don’t see the point in taking your shirt off to show if, if you have the body that is to be admired with your shirt off, keep it on. cause i don’t want to see it, cause your probably small as it is. I do agree with mental edge though, because when i box i take my shirt off (this is in a private gym) and i do feel “crazier” with it off from watching my self in the mirror. im sorry for the rant just my thoughts

I work out in a private gym, my buddies basement actually, we’ve accumulated everything we need over the years and just finished building a reverse hyper that fits in the squat rack so I don’t have to deal with the commercial gyms anymore.

But I don’t work out to impress newbies in the gym. When I was going to them I’d go in sweats and stocking cap, do my dumbell presses with the shiney never before used 120’s, get bitched at about the chalk I left on the bars and then hit the road. I go the gym to work and to get the hell out, it’s just how Ido it, the gym isn’t just a physical space, it’s a mental state and when I’m in it, I’m serious and focused and I save the showing off for other venues. If showing off at the gym your thing and you have to do it naked more power to ya, I won’t have to look at it

I have to agree with SiCLoGiC (however that’s capitalised) and Xvim. When in a public gym, I almost always wear a tank-top and shorts, and I bring a towel with me because I’m fairly sweaty. But if I saw someone topless there, I wouldn’t care – there is no dearth of fully clothed people sweating all over the benches anyways.

I’m lucky enough to have accrued all the gear I need to train at home, so once I’m warmed up I’m always shirtless. In fact, I usually train in just my briefs – mother nature designed us for millions of years to operate just fine naked; this clothing stuff is barely a few tens of thousands of years old. The only thing that keeps me from training naked is the risk of crushing my gear between my thighs on DLs or power cleans.

You are one weird motherfucker. I bet you don’t have a training partner.

So what about guys that run (outside, not on one of those crappy treadmills) without a shirt?

So what about the guys that swim, bike, etc, outside. Its outside, not pumping iron. I don’t have to lie in their sweat they left on the bench, nor watch their love-fest with themselves in the mirrors between sets…

c’mon people every gym’s gotta have the old naked guy clipping his toenails with one foot up on the sink . you folks gonna put him out on the street too ? you’re biting into his bread and butter man !!

Guilty on both counts.

Maybe my nipple jewelry would scare them.

lol!

I’ve honestly never seen a shirtless guy (or girl) in my gym. I think it would gross me out. Don’t really want someone else’s sweat on my back when I’m benching. However, I seldom see any guys benching - theyy’re usually doing cable crossovers.[/quote]

aroused

For the record only time i feel like taking off my shirt is when i’m doing bag work or something because we usually train mma shirtless (or at least with a rash guard)

Or if i’m playing basketball…

I wouldn’t do it. It’s just not on.

You leave sweat everywhere and it’s quite… not right.

Even if I’m working out completely alone I’ll keep my tank top on. I like to have bare arms, but sweating all over benches etc is not on.

Lifting without a shirt is fine in your own home or backyard, but to do it in a commercial gym or public weight room seems like you’re telling people, “LOOK AT ME!” which is very lame.

Amen. Its boils down to respect for the other gym members.

There is this dude at my gym at the University of Waterloo PAC – call him Kevin K – and he was filming some sort of squat video to prove that people can be ripped and squat big or whatever.

Anyway-- he warms up will 385 for 2.
Then, moves up to 4 plates but the camera starts rolling, he crashes and falls flat on his butt. His faced turned red and he kind of shrank into himself.

The whole gym was laughing at him.

He claimed he was going to post this video of him squatting “big” on the web.

What a guy. This guy has a crazy huge ego and he is SO small.

Whatever.

I was a member of another gym two years ago, they had a rule that sleeveless shirts weren’t even allowed because they didn’t want the “normal” people to feel self-conscious or something. Now that’s ridiculous IMO. I guess it depends which demographics you target.
