It was pretty good and creepy. I would like to see them remake that one. It was all suggestion and “if” kinda thing.

That’s why I didn’t say I consider it one of the better ones.
I wasn’t terribly impressed. I was hoping it would be as effective as the original The Omen, or The Exorcist, but I didn’t feel it.
I’d become a bit jaded as far as horror flicks go by the time I’d seen it for the first time (only a couple of years ago).
I would welcome a remake of that one, because I do think it could be a great film, if handled correctly.
I’m not sure Michael Bay can do it, though.
I thought the Exorcist was scary at the time. The ultimate struggle between good and evil. When the head turned 360 degrees, damn, gave me a shiver like no other. Other notables…
Poltergeist
Freddy Kruger (Hey I was a teenager)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Aliens

The original Alien kicked ass, as well. It kept me awake for a couple of days (I think I was 11).
Alien was a great movie, especially after being made in 1979. She did a great job throughout the entire Alien Quadrilogy. Not just any woman can look badass in this…

It’s also impressive how Alien and Aliens still hold up today. When I watch either movie, I don’t feel like they are dated at all.

Very True Vader, I find them to still be entertaining as they were years ago. These movies are worth your time because they have stood the test of time.
I know this is supposed to be scary and not just gory, but seeing Starship Troopers in the theaters when I was 13 kinda weirded me out when the bugs were ripping people apart.
When you guys mentioned Alien and Aliens being timeless it made me think of Starship Troopers because the CGI still holds up today.
Almost no gore at all, but creepy as hell and quite well done. Lots of ghostly disturbing suspense
B movie fare at it’s finest.
Takes place on a WWII submarine that picks up survivors of a torpedoed British ship while being chased by a German vessel. This IS NOT a war movie, but a supernatural thriller/horror flick that use the war as a setting for some blood curdling weirdness.

I like Starship troopers, but let this be the last time it is ever mentioned in the same breath as the first two Alien movies. I still think Blair witch is one of the worst movies ever. I even started a thread on how disappointing it was [and still is]. Than again, I knew it was “fake” going in. Thinking it was real would’ve undoubtedly changed it’s impact.

I just put it on my Netflix queue.
the thought of being in a submarine freaks me out anyways

I wasn’t particularly a fan of Rosemary’s Baby either. I actually thought it was rather slow and boring. Blair Witch on the other hand I thought was hilarious. That was probably because during warmups for cross country races someone would alway start up the “who has the map?” “do you have the map?”… “I kicked it in the river” quotes. So I had that going through my head while watching it.
Perhaps because I totally reject my Catholic upbringing, all of the horror movies based on Biblical prophecy or anything to do with THE Devil just come across as silly to me. The Exorcist, The Omen, The Seventh Sign, etc. I’m too busy tsk-tsking the theology to be scared.
Trying to come up with some that haven’t been mentioned (most of the good ones have already been mentioned though)
Arachnophobia - silly yes…but if spiders freak ya out…this would work too. Also not too gory.
Jaws - I don’t know if it’s considered a “horror” but, I still can’t go in the water without hearing that music. (maybe also check “Open Water”…I haven’t seen that one, but I’ve heard mixed reviews…more tense than say “scary or gory.”

I liked Open Water, but I wouldn’t consider it a horror film at all. Jaws is a classic though (wouldn’t classify that one as horror either).

I loved Jaws. That music is so famous. I read the book too.
I also read the books “Meg” and “Extinct”, I love those things.
Some old episodes of The X Files. Like the flukeworm thing, the circus creature. Hell in the movie, the scenes with the monster alien were pretty damn good. The one where the scientist is attacked in the cave was freaky as hell.

The Satanic Cult episode!!! With the creepy scary teacher that changed into a snake.
Or the forest demons with the red eyes… yep… X-Files had some golden episodes.
