If we use the old Mason Dixon line to divide the north and south, then yes, Virginia would be considered southern. If we are going based on the lines of the civil war, then present day Virginia would still be southern, as the northwestern part of Virginia split off and became West Virginia in order to side with the north, in 1863 I believe. Anyway, by either rationale, Virginians can call themselves southern if they choose to.
Saying that Kansas is southern is also a bit of a stretch, as they are closer to the Midwest, although they are probably just their own breed of “hick” in custom. The video certainly highlights the ignorance of a few residents.

Wikipedia suggests he left Bob Jones University after three semesters and actually graduated from John Muir College. Which makes it actually worse than the situation painted previously, because I’ve at least HEARD of Bob Jones University.
FWIW, John Muir College is a community college in Pasadena California, and I can only assume he went there because of the opportunity it allowed to preach hellfire and brimstone and be protected by the first amendment.
