As are subpoenas, and confirmation Flynn lied to investigators.
“The Oversight Committee has in our possession documents that appear to indicate that General Flynn lied to the investigators who interviewed him in 2016 as part of his security clearance renewal,” said Rep. Elijiah Cummings of Maryland in a letter to committee chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah).
“Specifically, the Committee has obtained a Report of Investigation dated March 14, 2016, showing that General Flynn told security clearance investigators that he was paid by ‘U.S. companies’ when he traveled to Moscow in December 2015 to dine at a gala with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The actual source of the funds for General Flynn’s trip was not a U.S. company, but the Russian media propaganda arm, RT.”
And Trump’s general performance has exasperated Congresssional Republicans, who are having to duck and cover at town hall meetings. Even if Trump is completely exonerated in the Russia scandal, he’s been revealed to be a mismanaging dope that has created a zero confidence attitude for the next real crisis that hits.
Didn’t Trump openly admit (again) what the WH has been denying, namely revealing classified intel to the Russians?
Anyway, Russian TV stations are saying that the WH meeting was supposed to be a prelude to a Putin-Trump summit, a “grand bargain” in which Trump would let Russia do whatever they want in Europe in exchange for a nebulous commitment to “fight terrorism”, similar in tone to to the pageant from Riyadh.
Unfortunately for Russians, Flynn’s stupidity and publicity regarding the FBI’s investigation thwarted these plans and the summit is off the table for a while.
Based on these speculations, Trump’s comments are even more damning.
In addition to the requests to Coats and Rogers, senior White House officials sounded out top intelligence officials about the possibility of intervening directly with Comey to encourage the FBI to drop its probe of Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser, according to people familiar with the matter. The officials said the White House appeared uncertain about its power to influence the FBI.
“Can we ask him to shut down the investigation? Are you able to assist in this matter?” one official said of the line of questioning from the White House.
Frank Luntz needs to crawl back under his rock. WaPo reported that Trump asked the DNI (Coats) and the NSA (Rogers) to deny the investigation. Has nothing to do with Brennan, who stepped down in January–long before the alleged conversations took place.
This Russian thing has been going on for about one year now and still absolutely no ties to President Trump. That has to be frustrating for the many Trump haters on the board. But that will not compare to their angst when the special prosecutor exonerates the President.
Anyone else care to bet that there will be no Trump impeachment or resignation? Only my man Tyler has stepped up to backup his posting. Atta boy Tyler…much respect!
Depends on what you mean by ‘ties.’ I would say Russia-related nefarious activities by Trump’s closest advisors/staff members count as ‘ties to Trump.’
Further, and as per usual, it seems at this point that so far as the POTUS is concerned, the cover-up’s the thing, not the crime itself. Trump may go down (as in, have his presidency/mandate crushed) on obstruction.
If the Dems take the House in 2018, I might take you up on it. But it has to be a real bet–none of this ‘stay off TN for a year’ nonsense.
No, not really - what we want is the truth about what happened, no matter who wins or loses. That’s what objective people capable of independent thought do. There’s nothing wrong with pursuing plenty of smoke suggesting a fire of wrongdoing, which is what we have here.
However, one of two things appear to have happened - Trump colluded in some way with the Russians, or high-level people associated with Trump’s campaign colluded in some way and Trump either knowingly permitted it and looked the other way, or he was/is too incompetent to manage his outfit and got duped by these schemers.
And let’s assume Trump is exonerated from direct collusion - why then does he continue to give signals as though he’s guilty of something? He’s making things worse for himself and his agenda, and doesn’t have enough self-control to stop undermining himself. Trump and his mindless supporters try and claim this is a witch hunt, but it’s not and Trump has only himself to blame for fanning the flames and not letting the story go quiet and die. If he is exonerated, it won’t be a glorious vindication - it’ll be further proof that Trump lacks sense enough to not manage a situation.
Wherever this leads, one thing is indisputable - Trump is on over his head to do that job more than anyone, and that anyone includes Obama.
Ties to everyone around him and his businesses, but that apparently doesn’t matter to you. As long as Trump doesn’t get in trouble for everyone he surrounded himself with having shady dealings it will all be a win to you. And it will be unfortunate to lose Tyler if he does not get impeached where as if he does you would just start a fake account the next day.
Now that is stepping up. Would it be Zeb 2 or Mick 29?
Very good point. I don’t do internet bets as a general rule, but were I ever to deviate from that rule, I’d only do it with a person who I think has enough personal integrity to honor the bet.
Thank you for the laugh. This would have credibility if you were not a die-hard Trump hater from day one. We go way back TB remember arguing about how Trump is a horrible business man? Yeah…you just want the truth. Scouts honor. LOL
Well you didn’t have to say that we all know you preferred the worst modern day President, Barack Obama over Donald Trump. And you know this after three short months. My gosh you are quite the prognosticator …except for those many, many times that you were wrong…ABOUT TRUMP.
