I think it is next week or something that Trump is supposed to come out with a News Service ranking of some sort?
(Any guesses on his favorite Network and his favorite Fanboy…uh…“correspondent”?)

Trump was going to surround himself with the best people. Apparently the best people leave quickly and get thrown under the bus. Trump’s loyalty lasts as long as his absence from twitter.
Simpson claimed that the FBI informed Trump dossier author Christopher Steele that the bureau had a “walk-in” whistleblower “from within the Trump organization or campaign,” possibly on issues related to alleged collusion between the campaign and Russian officials.
“The House Intelligence Committee voted Monday evening to publicly release a Republican memo alleging abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, but voted against releasing a memo written by the committee’s top Democrat” [emphasis mine]

The GOP is masterful at distraction. They would literally end every investigation into Trump/Russia today if it were up to them, despite watching the president attempt to obstruct justice on a near daily basis (McCabe “stepping down” being today’s example). They show no concern or curiosity as to what actually happened in the 2016 election.
But the Justice Department sent Nunes a letter last week saying it would be “extraordinarily reckless” to release the memo without giving the Justice Department the opportunity to review it for possible concerns with national security and ongoing investigations.
Note that’s the Justice Department, which Sessions’ oversees, not the FBI, that sent that letter.
It seems the GOP will do anything to protect the guy none of them wanted to be their nominee. Quietly protest police brutality of blacks by kneeling during the national anthem at a football game means you’re a cop/soldier/flag-hater, yet disparaging the nation’s top law enforcement agency on a daily basis is a-ok.
Probably because he’s so alfa.

Apparently, the point of releasing the Nunes memo is to provide Trump with an excuse for firing Rosenstein, the Deputy AG who is Mueller’s boss (and the only person who can fire him):
Yep, it’s blatantly obvious that Trump is setting the table to fire Mueller.
Forgive my ignorance on how its possible or not, but wouldn’t somebody just step up and continue the work? Or would Trump be able to put a surrogate that trashes the entire investigation?
Edit: It would’ve helped if I read the article first lol. Still, it seems like he is just trying to put in people he likes, but not everybody in the FBI would align with overlooking stuff just on partisan basis, so how would that play out? I’m fairly confident that if there is a smoking gun and somebody in the FBI who likes Trump doesn’t report on that leaks would happen and a lot of people would resign. Maybe I’m being optimistic though.
No, I think your position is completely reasonable. While many of the republicans in Congress seem willing to commit seppuku to protect Trump, you’re likely right that most agents of the FBI aren’t willing to do the same. And even if Trump does fire Mueller, the investigation will go on; of course he is planning for that eventuality just as Comey did. But the GOP might be able to make things difficult for them.
What concerns me is seeing what Trump’s gotten away with so far and wondering if he can’t do the same here. I should amend my post to say that Trump may not actually fire Mueller, but will throw anything and everything at him to try to discredit the investigation to taint any findings in the public’s eye. That’s precisely what this memo is intended to do.
You mean like Comey writing Clinton’s exhoneration letter before he interviewed the last dozen witnesses, including Clinton herself?
Nope.

Pretty sure he meant Comey allowing “grossly negligent” to be changed to “extremely careless” in that letter.
Aslund is probably the best Russia-watcher in the West for the last three decades. He knows what he’s talking about:

Would that be the same Comey who took the unprecedented step of excoriating Clinton publicly? The same Comey who dropped the ‘October surprise’ letter just before the election, arguably tipping the race to Trump?
Seems like a fair tradeoff for not filing charges on her multiple felony counts. Counts that would have been filed if she wasn’t rich and we’ll connected. There are people sitting in Leavenworth for far less.
