I SAW WHAT YOU DID, HH! (lol)!
I’m not saying he doesn’t have big disapproval ratings, I’m saying that disapproval might not mean what you (proverbial here) want it to mean.
TB was talking about how the right has ended up electing a lot of “scream at your TV” types that can’t function well in our form of government. While I disagree with him on the need for these types intermingled, I assume, the D’s have done much the same thing. I’d say they are in a similar spot as the R’s were in 2009, but it’s different.
Yeah but you can’t ignore 2010 and 2014 either. Plus trump flipped fucking Wisconsin man, Wisconsin. It was what an 8-10 swing? That’s crazy. The point is he was competitive (and won) in places he would have gotten smoked in any election say prior to 2010ish.
There is something bigger going on, and it certainly isn’t trump himself. He just capitalized on it.
2008 Obama? He would have won 47 states.
I also stand by my claim that had Hillary won in 2008, she would have likely beat romney in 2012 still, and Obama would have soundly beaten Trump in 2016. As much as I dislike his politics, and still would have voted for Johnson, Sanders doesn’t run against Obama and Obama would have smoked trump.
The true danger here is that it isn’t about trump himself, but an outright rejection of what trump isn’t.
Every day that goes by the more and more I think it isn’t about who trump is, but what he represents. Now that means different things to different people, and yes some of those people are down right vile assholes. But the point I’m trying to make is, which is the danger, it might not matter who the Ds run.
I might be paranoid here, but what I said in the other thread is true man. The left is doing nothing but doubling down on identity politics and anti-capitalism. This is very bad, one because it keeps the door open for trump, and two because if they do win, the country won’t be better off than they are with the tweeting cheeto.
Silver wrote a good piece after the primary (I think) on why he got trump so wrong. If you haven’t, you’d probably enjoy it.
That means dude is on gear lol
I want nothing more than to vote against Mr. Cheeto, but as you point out, there might be no middle ground if things continue as they are. I am concerned who will with the Dem primary because I think there is a reasonable spot between the two extremes that people would support if they had a chance, but the primary process (on both sides) fuels extremism and feeds the party’s base.
I’d also like to not waste my vote on a candidate that has no chance of winning (Johnson) again.
I’d like to get away from using the phrase “extremism” mainly because of what happened to “racism”. It was so abused, and over applied that less and less people even listen when anyone points of if something is racist. And depending on who said it, it goes completely ignored.
I totally agree with you point, and I’m not trying to thought police here. But I’m starting to get the feeling that things like “extremist” and “white nationalist” etc are being so abused we’ll start to ignore the labels and claims like we often do with racism now.
It’s not that more people are racist, just more people don’t give a shit if they are called it anymore, but it’s crying wolf often enough that it’s lost almost all it’s power.
not that johnson himself was conviction, but my conviction was a sound rejection of both candidates, so I don’t feel my vote wasted. And if either candidate had one my state by one vote, I would have announced to the world it was me that screwed them over/hooked them up, depending on one’s perspective.
When Jordan Peterson, Gad Saad & Brent Weistien are called nazi’s and white nationalists, or alt-right, or what have you… You know either the left has lost their minds, or those words are now meaningless. (Or people are calling them that because someone else did, and not actually reading or listening to anything they say, but I refuse to believe people do that, I’ll give em the benefit of the doubt they are above that.)
It could also mean that the left isn’t the left. It definitely means than not all liberals are really liberals.
I actually wonder if these people who we say are on the left really think of themselves as the left and/or liberals. I don’t think of them as liberals and I qualify left with regressive. But I think it’s better for the real liberals and left to call them neo-Marxist, postmodernists. This would “liberate” the real liberals from these fascists. They need to disavow and disassociate. Unfortunately I think the DNC has been infected by identity politics. Maybe they’ll run Caitlyn Jenner. Then again I think she supported Trump.
I completely agree the Dems are a party in disarray. I’m socially liberal (don’t give a shit who fucks who, don’t think we should legislate the bedroom, etc.) but it’s gone crazy land in places. Turning a lot of people off and not sure what the end game is on some of it. No idea where they are actually at on capitalism. Hilary was a hardly a socialist but Bernie was and he may have won the nomination if the DNC didn’t fuck him over. I have no idea what the Democrats stand for in 2017. “Vote for us because we have a different letter than Trump?” Honestly not a bad reason to vote there, but going to need to actually have some substance other than we ain’t him. They are out of power all over the country, have old ass leaders that everyone is tired of (Pelosi more than anything), etc.
The thing is the Republicans are a party in disarray that’s in power. They have all the power and can’t deliver victories. What the fuck does a Republican stand for in 2017? The Republicans ran a guy basically counter to everything you would think a typical Republican is in your head. Family values and Christian? Trump has been married three times, grabs women by the pussy’s (or at least says he does), talks about wanting to get with his daughter, is a giant dick to basically the world, and likely has never actually read the Bible. Of course evangelicals supported him in droves because why have principles but that’s a different story.
Fiscally conservative? Trump said he would default on the debt. He would borrow on the debt knowing the economy collapsed he could make a deal. Trillion dollar infrastructure promise with no tax increase. Sure why not! Remember health care: Insurance for everybody, no one loses coverage.
Free market believers? They elected a guy who preaches protectionism and favored statuses for select industries.
The completely shitty thing about all of this is that we have basically decided as a nation we are only going to elect people if they say they are Democrats or Republicans. We don’t really give even a little bit of a fuck what they say or stand for. We just know both sides are going to run someone and we are going to pick one of those two.
Fucked either way so why argue or care pretty much sums up my thinking on politics right now.
Damn excellent post, H…
You pretty much summed up where I am.
Damn man u just summed it up with a shot of testosterone… #nailedit
I think if Dems could focus on Healthcare, & environment and not get sidetracked with dumb stuff they got a chance. Also Trumps allienated anyone black or brown or in a mixed relationship. A guy like Corey Booker could beat Trump. Hes like diet Obama almost as good as the real thing haha
This situation is preferable to what I tend to think is going on…
It’s that bad lol
I think the DNC is alienating black people, or at least men, since their identity politics are all about sexual identity and women’s rights. It’s pushing heterosexual males out. I think a lot of black people wonder how transgender bathroom usage became more important than what is going on in cities like Chicago.
Abrams, who at one point boasted nearly 70,000 Twitter followers, was featured in articles written by Bustle, U.S. News and World Report, USA Today, several local Fox affiliates, InfoWars, BET, Yahoo Sports, Sky News, IJR, Breitbart, The Washington Post, Mashable, New York Daily News, Quartz, Dallas News, France24, HuffPost, The Daily Caller, The Telegraph, CNN, the BBC, Gizmodo, The Independent, The Daily Dot, The Observer, Business Insider, The National Post, Refinery29, The Times of India, BuzzFeed, The Daily Mail, The New York Times, and, of course, Russia Today and Sputnik.
Many of these stories had nothing to do with Russia—or politics at all. Instead, stretching back to 2014, Abrams’ account built up an image of a straight-talking, no-nonsense, viral-tweet-writing young American woman. She was featured in articles as diverse as “the 15 funniest tweets this week” to “#FeministAMovie Proves Why Twitter Can’t Have Nice Things.” Then, once she built her following, she would push divisive views on immigration, segregation, and Donald Trump, especially as the 2016 election loomed.
Abrams’ pervasiveness in American news outlets shows just how much impact Russia’s troll farm had on American discourse in the run-up to the 2016 election—and illustrates how Russian talking points can seep into American mainstream media without even a single dollar spent on advertising.
Russian State TV news - “Facebook ads were cheap, we’re not responsible for the fact that Americans are gullible imbeciles.”
I mean I know exactly what it is but it still makes me want to vomit. Democrats flipped the fuck out of mant thing GWB did and fell silent if Obama continued. Patriot Act, too many wars, being out of office and at the ranch, could go on forever. Obama even talked about lowering the debt saying you want to take a scalpel and not an ax. Once the man in office had the letter they loved it was ignored or defended when he did the same thing.
Republicans were butthurt over every time Obama did something and now they don’t give a shit if Trump does the same thing. How much debt we have. “Owebama.” Republicans do not give a fuck now. Not even a little bit. We are going to
spend more on the military, build a huge wall, invest massively in infrastructure and we are going to cut everyone’s taxes at the same time. It’s our turn to spend now.
They flipped out over Obama vacations and him golfing. Now the President goes away all the time and has golfed more times than Obama did. That outrage from Republicans is awful quiet now. Imagine the outrage from Republicans if the Obama family didn’t move into the White House immediately like Melania. The screams over the amount of money it was costing would have been shrill and violent.
For fucks sake Republicans talked forever about getting rid of Obamacare and aren’t going to do it. The response is let’s let it fail. A program they said for years hurts Americans and now the response is “we didn’t pass it so let’s let it blow up and we can say lol told you this was bad.” Once it fails we will do what we want. It’s not now we are in power and we are going to make this better. It’s we tried a bit couldn’t get along with it so we just hope it hurts Americans.
Obama’s birth certificate, sealed college records, what’s he hiding he should show us if he didn’t have anything to hide. Trump first person to not release tax records? Meh who cares. He trolls liberals why would we care what’s in them.
Generalizing on a lot of that but I think the main
message sticks. But hey we got two choices so gotta to with one team!
For a country that has accomplished and done so much we can’t collectively figure out that this choice sucks and we should get rid of political parties or at least the system of basically saying you have to pick this letter and pander to these groups or you have no chance.
Ok enough get off my lawn old man ranting by me!!
Hmmm they arent wrong… Ive made a lot of $$$ selling Americans stuff they dont need…and as a ad executive Id say the dumber or bolder the spot the better
Yep. I’ve seen ads for things that were so silly and unbelievable that I wondered how stupid the people behind them must be and how no one is going to fall for it. Then I read something from someone who comes up with those type of ads who said that they deliberately make them “too good to be true” sounding because they are specifically targeting those most vulnerable.
Works like a charm. Usually we have to meet with a client and explain ad isnt simple enough. The more tasty the offer no matter how ridiculous works best. In TV radio and print there is guidlines and some regulation per industry. But internet is kinda the wild west.
Example…we target folks with a generic msg like “good luck local football team” Once its liked and shared and we get on safe list we smoke em with the bs
This is the dumbest possible complaint about any President at any time. Why on earth would people WANT a President in office or doing something related to his position? People start feeling too free, and worrying that sons and fathers won’t be sent off to die for no reason?
Looking to be a busy news day already…
Mr. Ross’s stake in Navigator has been held by a chain of companies in the Cayman Islands, one of several tax havens where much of his wealth, estimated at more than $2 billion, has been tied to similar investment vehicles. Details of these arrangements surfaced in a cache of leaked files from Appleby, one of the world’s largest offshore law firms, which administered some 50 companies and partnerships in the Caymans and elsewhere connected to Mr. Ross.
