Ron Paul on Face the Nation

The law would have to be changed first. You’re loans are not supplied by the government. They are backed by the government and the rates are set by the fed. Fanny Mae offers such loans that receive 100% backing by the government in case you should default and not be able to repay them.

I think if this law is changed it will just mean you will be paying competitive rates on any future loans. The free market will meet the demand once the government gets out of this business. Yes, it would probably cost you more for the loan in this case but then the price of tuition would necessarily come down to meet this new demand.

Higher interest rates will make colleges more competitive.

Get rid of school loans? Well, there’s a reason to vote for him.

For someone who does not live in the US Ron Paul is by far the most interesting candidate. If he gets elected or not is not the point - that is called democracy. I can`t see any Rudi Guiliani on Face the Nation-threads so he seems to bring some fresh air in the political arena.

What I don`t understand is the hatred towards him. He seems to be a very intelligent, well spoken man and he does not sell out his believes to get elected. He may have some not mainstream supporters like Alex Jones. But what the hell Ronald Reagan belived in astrology - does that make him a moron?

It’s a tough call to make. While - in principle - a free market will benefit the rich at the expense of the poor, the trillions and trillions of dollars (taxpayer’s money) saved by not waging unnecessary wars are bound to balance that. At least, the dollar wouldn’t be so weak and the oil not so expensive.

But I’m just speculating…

Plus, a more efficient system grows faster, even if for those at the bottom, in part because capitalism requires catering to the masses needs.

Does Ron Paul really want to cut off all funding to the Department of Education? If so, what does this mean for my student loans?

Well, first he’d have to get congress to go along with it. Second, you’re loans will will not change except perhaps they will be repackaged and sold to an other bank. You’re rates probably wouldn’t change at all.

Actually, I meant what does this mean for people still getting federal loans. Does this mean that if Paul is elected, no one willbe able to get federal loans?

Only if he has his way.[/quote]

And that wouldn’t much matter unless skaz has a price. I trust he’s more honorable than that. I’d pay double to get us back to the republic we were intended to be.
