Riding Gear

I always wear boots. Actually, I always wear at least boots, jacket, pants, gloves, and a helmet. I’ve been down before and know how much it hurts. Kinda hard trying to find boots too in a size 14, but I got some Harley ones, and some Icon’s that are good.

I am 6’3 and 240lbs and all my stuff fits comfortably. All my stuff is XXXL and i have no problems. You would have to be crazy to ride the street wearing a helmet only “sometimes” and in a t-shirt. Even a 20 mph accident will give your skin a rub down like 200 grit sandpaper on a ripe tomato. So put on gloves AND jacket in the very least.

Regardless of body weight, I weigh more than you and I’m about 4 inches shorter. It is like you comparing your hassles with gear to someone who is almost 6’8" to 7 feet tall. Our frames are different and I do have a hard time with jackets. I always wear gloves and have only gone without a helmet once (and that was down the street in a residential district). You are right about the risk of riding without a jacket that has pads, however, unless someone has found a way around having arms larger than the arm holes, I don’t think some can relate to what is being said about gear problems. I own a mesh Icon jacket and I would wear it more if it weren’t for that. I will evntually look into having one custom made, but the prices go up 1,000 bucks for that priviledge.
Hey, i was not refering to you specifically, but some of the things you wrote kinda set my wheels in motion. Anyway i know your problems with fitment. My weight used to be as high as 275 with a 57 inch chest. You may want to look into some riding jackets in XXL but in a relaxed cut. I know the ICON daytona Hero jacket has a very generous cut which is why i bought it, it still has room to spare to be skin tight with the winter liner in it. So with it removed i drown in it. So check it out, you can always return it.

all the gear all the time.

I wear a joe rocket armoured jacket and pants, full face helmet, gloves and sturdy boots.

How many of you actually wear boots all of the time? I am mostly talking to those on sports bikes.
Got me on that one. Hardly ever.

I have a pair of black and a pair of brown Icon Superduty boots that I wear whenever I ride my bike casually (i.e. to work). I have a pair of Alpinestars boots I wear for longer rides. I always wear one of those boots when I’m on my bike.

My riding boots are on my feet when riding. I like my feet too, they carry me places when I’m not on the bike. Call me silly that way.

911 Girl,
interesting handle, would you be in the emergency medical field?
anyway you go girl. what you are saying is exactly right.
for all of us that ride, whatever you ride. tee’s, shorts and sandles are what look retard on a bike. the leathers or textiles both with armour are sensible and protective. and believe it or not helmets are too. everytime i see a rider and passenger less good gear, i feel really sorry for the fact that they are going to be naturally selected to be “taken out” of the gene pool, by their own decision. IF YOU RIDE OR ARE A PASSENGER, DO YOURSELF, YOUR FREINDS AND YOUR FAMILY A BLESSING AND A FAVOR. GET PROPER GEAR AND USE IT ALWAYS.
cause i care and no apologies

The topic was actually “Where can I get gear that might fit,” not a request for a safety lecture. Odds are, if you are going to wear the proper stuff…you already are. If you are going to ride around in flip-flops, shorts, and a t-shirt, like a tard, then statements like, “How much is your skin worth?” probably aren’t going to sway you. My hide’s not worth a damn, but i’ll go ahead and protect it anyways.

Focus:
Thanks for the suggestions from all of you that actually made one. I got some good stuff from Speedwerks, so thanks MichaelV. Hopefully I’ll get my bike registered and everything by next week and can actually go ride.

You’re welcome. I have to reiterate the Speedwerks thing again, because they have had the most amazingly personal customer service of any company I have dealt with.

In the past, I ordered some Icon stuff, which was very popular and very back-ordered (everywhere). The Speedwerks people kepe me constantly updated on the status with personal emails. Not like “your order is back-ordered”, followed two months later by “your order has shipped”, but regular updates in between. When I exchanged emails with them, thanking them, then getting into a little half-hearted conversation about the Kitty line of lady Icon stuff, they were fun and friendly.

But just recently, I ordered some saddle-bags and an alarm. I live in Washington state and frequently order from California companies, which just take two to three days ground shipping, so I always order ground. Well, I’m going on a ride next week, and I expected these to get here in time, except I forgot they were on the East Coast.

I sent them a quick email asking if they could change my shipping to 2nd-day and charge me the difference. The alarm was delayed a few days, so they were going to ship it separately, for free. When I contacted them, it had just come in. They called me and gave me the good news and bad news. The good news was that they could do everything I wanted, and the alarm had even just come in. The bad news was that, because of the size and weight of the saddle bags, 2nd-day shipping was going to be $50!

Then, they told me they had discussed it, and offered to split the shipping with me. Of course, I agreed. So these guys covered half my 2nd-day shipping just to keep a happy customer! And it wasn’t even their fault the shipping needed to be changed in the first place.

So, although there are some other places I always check when looking for parts and gear, they are the guys I always go to first.
