I’m sorry. For now on this thread is about mushrooms

…just last week a man died from mushroom poisoning in the Netherlands. He was stupid though; he knew something was not quite right, and when he got sick he didn’t go to the hospital until it was too late…

…Skyskzyks: are there any Cubensis in your area?

Not that I’ve seen. There is an occasional liberty cap, and a wide variety of non potent psilocybes, but the climate here in the north east is no good for them. We do get huge outcrops of big laughing gyms though. Odd thing about those is that you can find them with your nose before you ever see them. When fresh they have a very strong sweet floral fragrance that you can pick up on from a good distance. Most of what is published on them is on the australian variant, but a couple of people I know who are frequent flyers got pretty looped from one good sized cap.

I have seen a few troops of what appeared to be psilocybe azurescens bearing all of the standard identifying characteristics, but I’ve never tried them. There was a huge bloom of them in one of my neighbors yard where he threw down a truck load of wood chips to create a parking pad. As the guy from the Netherlands found out, identification can be pretty tricky. In some cases if medical attention is not sought immediately, by the time you are sick it is too late.

I’m just trying to create some counter balance to that horrid thread you started about cheese burgers and fries.

Proliferating information like that is not healthy. You make it more widely available by linking it on other sites like this one, causing people to more frequently consider burgers and fries as a food source.

I am presenting a delicious 100% organic and healthy alternative that is loaded with essential vitamins, minerals, amino acids and is being studied for its immuno-regulatory and cancer fighting potential.

You didn’t read the link for the maitake, did you?

How is a potential treatment for cancer irrelevant?

You think the fat guy in your article doesn’t need to eat better?

I think you should send a link of this thread to him. He looks like he could use a decent meal that doesn’t involve crisco, bacon, and white bread and ketchup.

LOL

Nice find on the chanterelles and morels. My experience with mushrooms has been limited to button, dried porcini and portabello mushrooms and since I live in the dessert I can’t go out and find them like you do. Where should a noob start out and which ones do you prefer with certain foods such as eggs or meats.

Black trumpet chanterelle with eggs as an omelet. Even just a couple of grams makes it absolutely wonderful.

For meats all of the ones I presented previously are great(except the amanita). To stretch them a little, I’ll usually include them in the sauce, gravy, or as a soup.

A noob should always start with a local mycology club. Even if it is just to get pointed in the right direction, they are a goldmine of information and will save a lot of time and effort, and possibly a life.

This thread makes me hungry.
