Rant Smokers

I don’t know the situation in other countries but in Australia there is something that disgusts me, and literally annoys me to no end. The fact my tax dollars go too people who smoke and get ill just so they can continue smoking my money away.

With everything we know about smoking cigarette’s how come it seems 1 in every 2 people smoke, and it STILL is being taken up by younger people. I remember the first week of university everyday I come home smelling like I’ve been in a room of people smoking for the past week.

Why is health care even provided to these people who willingly destroy their own body? I know there is a chance that people are going to go what about fat people? you going to cut them off? or what about alcohol abuse?

I agree with cutting health care off for people who abuse alcohol and people who smoke cigarettes, both aren’t necessary for life and the government already spends millions on advertising too warn people about the effects of both.

I guess I can sympathize with people who are overweight because I’m sure there still is confusion about what healthy nutrition is HOWEVER there is nothing to confuse about the dangers of smoking and substance abuse.

Why is it that my money goes towards giving smokers a lung transplant? or a alcoholic’s new kidney. If you turn on the television and watch tv for 15 minutes I’m certain you will get AT LEAST 2 ad’s about the dangers of cigarette’s.

Hell even on the packets now they have warning and pictures of what can happen, so why do people still do it? These are simple addictions that can be stopped, are people afraid of failure? Then why does the government and community bother too set up support groups and other organizations for people to get the help they need.

Does anyone else feel this way? Also I’m sick of walking from my car too a shopping center and being hit with a cloud of cigarette smoke.

I pose too the people on this board who do smoke, why do you continue too smoke when you know how bad it is for your health? especially to the younger generation since I can remember I’ve been told how bad smoking is for you(I’m 20).

Is this just a normal form of natural selection too weed out the stupid and ignorant? the only people I can sympathize with are the ones when it was first pushed on people without the knowledge of the dangers.

So why is a dirty, stinking and unattractive habit still regarded as cool?

I don’t smoke but people can do whatever they want to do. Smoke in bars doesn’t bother me either.

I think it’s really gay when someone gets a light breeze of cigarette smoke at a bar and starts doing the “in front of the face hand-fan with the death face” thing. If it bothers you that much, stay home. Quit crying.

When I see a pregnant woman smoking, this REALLY pisses me off. I know it’s “none of my business” but what the fuck…

Yes.

casual smokers don’t big me at all. Heavy smokers can get bad though. BUt outside the fact you have to pay for them, which it would piss me off too, I don’t really care.

I don’t understand why everyone is so gung-ho anti-smoking. People smoke. If they didn’t WANT to smoke they WOULDN’T. So let them. They are only hurting themselves. I personally hate fat women wearing clothes too small for them. But they can do what they want, just like smokers, so I mind my own business.

generally I feel this way however when I know my tax dollars could be going towards something that could benefit the community it starts to get on my nerves, people might as well just run head first into a wall.

And no I’ve never had a go at someone for smoking but I dont get the attraction too it, I mean its expensive, it destroys your insides, makes people even more uglier later on and makes them smell…I mean at least weed relaxes people, I remember the first time i tried a cigarette I felt gross

It’s the same reason I rage against fat people. Over here, out tax dollars go toward their health problems.

This is why I don’t want nationalized health care. I’m not a smoker, but if I did want to smoke or drink myself to death it’s nobody else’s business.

Fwiw smokers pay more for health insurance here in the USA for obvious reasons.

You know what drives up the cost of healthcare more than smokers or drinkers? Old people who refuse to die. Another leading cause is lazy diabetics who don’t want to change their diets and exercise like their doctors tell them to.

Smokers are an easy target, people love to pick on them. The same people who probably have several habits that are suspect themselves.

I dont smoke, but I have no problem with people who do. So what? We should focus our attention on the old people who refuse to die. I think we should cut off ALL medical services to the elderly, just let em drop. You will see the cost of healthcare drop dramatically.

I know it sounds harsh, but someone has to make the difficult choices.

Over here cigerettes are so heavly taxed the smokers are just trying to get their money back via health care.

Seriously, I’m a smoker, because I’m an idiot. I hate smoking, I hate smoking around other people, I hate the smell, I hate how I feel especially after HIIT days but it’s an addiction, something I started when I was a dumb kid and haven’t had the strength to quit. I will be quitting ASAP but I’m also dieting right now, there is no way in hell I’m going to try to quit while I’m dieting. The diet is coming to an end and so is the smoking.

Smoking is responsible for about 50% of ALL cancers.

I watched lung cancer kill both my wife’s parents, and it’s scary/ugly.

It’s peoples’ choice to smoke… yes, but not when I’m in the room. My right to clean air supersedes your right to your dirty little habit.

When the debate over making NJ bars/restaurants smoke-free were going on, the owners bitched that business would die down. Well the law has passed and this has not been the case. In fact, there’s a whole portion of the population (myself included) who now go out more often because we can enjoy eating in a smoke-free environment.

Former smoker here…

Not sure why I started… Probably saw someone I wanted to be like when I was real young do it, but thats just a guess.

I have to say in defense, I started before the legal age and even now I think though it would have been hard to change my mind, I don’t feel it right to harshly penalize those that do smoke whatever reason- albiet a bad one.

…and honestly its pretty damn hard to feel sorry for anyone who does get cancer as a result of first hand smoking. Hell, I might even go as far as to say “serves them right”
I always want to say something to pregnant women though when I see them smoking…THAT shouldn’t be allowed

They need to have smoke free bars in michigan or a designated room. That smell just drives me nuts, and a big reason why I hate going to bars to drink.

Does your right to clean air supersede people’s rights to drive cars, or industry’s rights, or the economy’s rights…ad infinitum?

What about fireplaces, people spraying god awful synthetic deodorizers, your neighbors painting or tarring their roof?

“Right” to clean air my ass.

Much like they need pro-smoking bars and restaurant sections in California. “Separate but equal” is a term that is wholly applicable here.

I have come to the conclusion that GOV’s want people to keep smoking. Cause if they wanted you off nicotine they would cut the cost of quiting aids so they are more affordable then the tobacco products themselves. Then they should really tax the crap out of tobacco products.

But every GOV likes the tax cash cow from tobacco products keep them affordable and keep them really available to the public.

I agree. Anyone who makes any effort whatsoever to avoid breathing in smoke is a pussy. And what’s with those losers who swat mosquitoes that are biting them? Stay inside if it bothers you so much.
