Rack Pulls?

What the heck is a rack pull and how is it executed?

a search of the T-Nation archives shows over 3700 mentions. I bet you could find what you wanted if you used that feature, like a lot of the rest of us have done in the past.

Check out Vroom’s ‘Are You A Beginner?’ thread. It has a multiitude of useful links, including video of various excercises. I’ve bookmarked tons of the links from that thread alone.

Here’s a link to vroom’s “Are you a Beginner II.” Hope that helps!

or you could just look at the front page b/c it never leaves there now…

People need to learn to search for things on their own. How can anyone be expected to actually put the effort into working out if they won’t put a little effort into finding out how?

since this is the beginners section I will actually help out some-

A rack pull is a partial deadlift in a power rack. You set the safety pins at a designated height and perform the lift like a regular deadlift, but it gives a shorter range of motion.

Well, I WAS looking for the Velocity Diet and found it and all by myself (note sarcasm). Thank you. I also looked for over an hour for “rack pulls”, but not here. I looked elsewhere. It’s not a bad thing to ask for help once in a while.

I’m also a nurse, so I don’t exactly have a lot of time in the day to spend surfing the net when I work 16 hour shifts four days a week. Are you this harsh on ALL “newbies” without knowing why they’re asking questions? This could be why I avoided a gym for so long. =S

Burn!

As a newbie myself, I can see your point. Also, for me, I very seldom can find what I’m looking for using ANY search option. My husband is far better at that than me. I end up in the weirdest ass places.

So yeah, if I’ve looked and haven’t found it, I ask.

Then say–as I’ve done in past “I used the search engine and I still can’t find it”.

But how come I found 3775 articles in 2 seconds by typing rack pulls into the search engine?

Pssst… quit picking on the newbie. Come back to the politics forum and insult me instead…

You’re right.
Except I don’t want to insult you.
I luuuuuuuuuuuvv you!

It didn’t show up with 3775 articles when I searched because I didn’t search here. A point I also mentioned. I just typed in “rack pull” in google. Would you like to know what it returned to me? It was giving me dumbell racks that you could purchase.

What directed me here in the first place was a friend told me about the Velocity Diet so I started searching for it and I found it here. I liked the look of the place so I opted to sign up. As I started reading the post on Velocity I noticed the words “rack pull” and didn’t know what it was. I looked it up using plain old google and returned too many pages to look through.

But please excuse me, I didn’t mean to come across as an ignorant newbie who “wants” to step on the great Joe Weider’s toes. I wonder though - were you not once a “rookie” who made “rookie” mistakes? You can’t honestly say you were never a beginner at something and that you never made a mistake.

Oh, and I don’t exactly consider what you’re doing picking on me. And if you were…I can definitely hold my own (as you can see). And let me apologize, for when I made my post, I had just finished a shift so, I was a little cranky. But thank you all for answering my question. =)

Nice!

I also have a hell of a hard time finding things using the search. Even if I type in the exact article title it often won’t bring it up, or will bring up articles that refer to it, but not the article itself. It is really annoying, but hardly a problem limited to this site.

Use quotes around words when you need them to be together. Such as typing in Rack Pull gets you a bunch of garbage that only matches on “rack” or “pull”. I just tried it and had to go through a bunch of hits before finally finding rack pull.

But typing “rack pull” (with the quotes) in the search gets you “Excercises you’ve never tried #13” which has pictures as the 1st hit.

Search engine technology is still in its infancy.

Oh yeah, my point was, if you’re going to be a smart ass to the newbies, at least give them good information.

Saying “just type rack pull in and get 3775 entries” doesn’t help because of all those entries only 71 actually are about rack pulls.

That is why people say “I typed it in but can’t find it” because they get 3775 entries of garbage back that has nothing to do with what they are looking for, not because they are all stupid and lazy.

she already said she didn’t even try the search engine here. The second article that comes up under the search is the DL article by Cressey. Third is part of the “exercises you’ve never tried” series that specifically has rack pulls in it.
anything else? Or was that your best point?
Cause if that was your best point…

Chill out Joe. Take a break. Relax. Nice deep breaths. Try clasping your hands together and raising your arms high over your head and step up on your tip toes and taking a slow, deep breath. Calming isn’t it? If not, do what my nursing instructor used to tell me when a patients family ticked me off in our clinical setting - find your happy place. Mine is Fiji. What’s yours?

~Eden

Damn Eden, you go girl! (did I just say that)?

Absolutely nothing wrong at all with simply asking a question. If you don’t want to answer it then don’t. It’s as simple as that. You’ve wasted way more time and energy buy giving her a hard time than you would have if you just answered the damn question.

2nd article had nothing about rack pulls though.
For me, the excercises you’ve never tried came up 5th, not 3rd. That’s wierd.
Still, lots of searching, took me 10 minutes to find it. Sure, I do the effort and don’t ask “where is this” but it is still a pain in the ass. Most people probably give up after reading through 4 articles and try a different search term, with equally crappy results. Need a better search engine.

Okay okay already.
Christ, I gave her props for coming back at me and everything…

And it is weird that the search engine would do that 3rd/5th thing.
But then again we’ve been crying for a better search engine here forever.
