Don’t…ask yourself if you would rather lose your face or a lung…
This is true, My uncle lost his life when he was 55, he looked like he was 95, Oh and half of his face was removed. Super cool stuff. NOT

Captain’s Log, Day 2- This voyage sucks major dicks, and I should have never embarked upon it. I want to rip the heads of baby seals and beat orphans with them. However, I woke up coughing less, and do generally feel better. It’s the first 24 hour period I’ve gone without a smoke in 10 years.

That’s not going to help the orphans, of course, but oh well.

I pretty much just keep repeating to myself, “Marvin Hagler didn’t smoke…Marvin Hagler didn’t smoke…”

Time to employ self… um where you make fun of yourself. Tell yourself you’re a little bitch for number 1 getting yourself hooked on a chemical, and then number 2 for allowing a little chemical to have such an effect on you. Who runs you, you, or Phillip Morris. Are you Free or a slave to a corporation. You don’t want to smoke and they can’t make you. FUCK THEM AND THE HORSE THEY RODE IN ON!!! (the marlboro man’s horse)

Coughing is the first thing you will notice in the AM, and the balls of lung butter you cough up will go away.

I think I’m quite charming, fuck you guys.

But yes, I do lift, quite a bit, and box (recreationally) as well… it will be nice to have my wind for the first time in 10 years… but man, hasn’t even been three hours and I’m thinking about it.

It’s amazing how much you structure your life around it and don’t even realize it…
My lung collapsed while preparing for one of my tournament. Didn’t even spar that day or anything, finished my workout and just relaxing doing absolutely nothing and all of a sudden I got extreme pain in my chest, thought I was having a heart attack, but it was a collapsed lung. Doctor didn’t know what caused it, but I’m convinced it was from training so hard while smoking.
do you still smoke?

What about smokin’ joe?..sorry, couldn’t resist.

V…The first time my wife and I quit it lasted six years. I came home one morning early from midnight shift at about four or five am. So I go to take a leak and there is a ciggy butt in the toilet, WTF? I don’t smoke, neither does my wife so being a guy I think MOTHER FUCKER!, she’s fucking some dude and he has a smoke afterwords IN MY FUCKING CRAPPER! I start to head to the garage for the axe…calm down, take a breath. I go in and wake her up and say, "hey I’m home early and who’s cigg butt is in the toilet?

She groans and say’s it’s mine, I’m sorry. Yours?, okay whatever I thought it was someone else’s, whew, go back to sleep lol. She was shocked that I would connect the dots like that. Men are like that honey.

I started smoking again later that day, stoopid, I blame her. I quit sooner than her the second time but when I started to get our son to ask “mommy when are you going to quit smoking?” she quit for good, atleast I hope so. It was a low move on my part getting our son to do battle for me lol.

Moral of the story V…don’t trust that girl lol.

I’ve quit a couple times, but it’s always booze that gets me going again.

All you quitters-Did you notice major gains when you quit? You’re not messing with your blood flow and veins anymore, so I would hope so.

I don’t use any nciotine for three hours before a workout, and a pack usually lasts 2-3 days, while a can of Cope lasts almost a week.

Oh and NY is $6.50 for a CHEAP pack. Marbs will run you $8, or more.

V
Hell yea. Up in NJ they’re $7-8 a pack now. You buy a pack for $6 and you’re buyin fuckin mustangs haha

Also what is important is how you deal with your smoker friends. I found best way to avoid smoking is to not be around it.
This is going to be tough because many of my buddies smoke.

Although ironically, the ones that do smoke are the ones that I’m trying desperately to avoid being like- fat, sloppy, old-looking, bald, etc.

If you really start going insane, then I say go get the gum…it’ll help with the nicotine cravings.

I’ve been quit for about 21 months.I smoked for 8 years, and lifted most of the time during. I never did any cardio, just lifting, so it didnt really hurt my performance- I thought.

The way I quit, was I switched to chewing, and allowed myself to do that for about 3 months, I chewed regular tobacco, pouches, and snus. After those couple of months, I quit chewing and switched to chewing fruity nicotene gum. I chewed about 12 pieces a day. After about a month of that, I quit the gum with pretty much no withdrawl.

The addicting part of smoking for me was how quick it hits you. Chewing takes a little longer for the nicotene to take effect, and the gum even longer. Eventually, I was training myself not to use nicotine as an impulsive solution to stress.

I did allow myself to drink coffee, and that was actually a savior for me. My brain got foggy when I quit smoking, and Im glad coffee was there to sharpen me up a little bit in its place.

Good luck, it feels very good to have quit.

Well, it’s been three days. What hell hath these cigarettes wrought on me… but I haven’t smoked one since.

It’s getting moderately better… a shitload of coffee and gum is keeping me alive haha.

I’m proud of you man! Keep it going. You’ll feel a lot more free. You’ll also trip out and think you are missing something when you leave for work each day…always looking for that square box along with the phone, wallet and keys…“oh yeah…I don’t smoke anymore”…It’s very liberating.

A combination of factors have led me to believe that right now is the time to quit smoking for good. I’ve been doing it for 10 years, and at 26 I think I can still avoid the worst if I call it a day on it now.

I guarantee I’m going to be a huge dickhead for the next week or so because of this one.
There is a bodybuilder with a public pass for the college gym. I somewhat idolized him as he showed me how to bench proper and got me into deadlifting. He smoked a shit load though. Bummer. Once he decided to quite it took him 6 months trying different things like cold turkey and weening.

I really hope you fucking succeed man. Keep your progress posted!

Good luck man. You got this.

go on a 2 week vacation to start you off...somewhere impossible to buy them.,, like the mountains or some shit.

I never smoked… so Im curious how hard is it to quit. are the cravings as strong as fast food cravings?? is the craving as strong as having to go without sex/beating off??

That’s pussy shit bud.

It’s like being told that you can’t use your left arm anymore. That’s the closest I can think of that a non-smoker might get.

Think of something you do 20 or 40 times a day for 10 years, then don’t ever do it again. Maybe that’s beating off for you, I don’t know.
