Man, I never understood the appeal of drinking…It’s like EVERYONE does it, so why would I want to be just like everyone else? That burning taste, feeling dehydrated, the chance of puking, being incoherent, loud, stumbly, and waking up hungover (in no shape to workout)…how is this appealing?..It is a poison you know

There is a difference between drinking and getting drunk. Learn moderation.
I never understood how people can drink moderately…If I’m drinking, it is so that I get drunk (this is why you’ll never see me have a beer with dinner, just doesn’t make sense), I mean, fuck, WHY ELSE would you drink? Are you going to try and convince me that you like the taste? Trust me I’ll never try to convince you that I smoke cause I like the taste of pot, its so that I get high!
I don’t even like having 1-3 beers, it just feels retarded.
I can definitely relate to that sentiment. Taste and what ever else were always secondary to function, which is intoxication.

I started drinking everyday about 6 months after I got out of the marines. Drank a fifth a night for 60 days straight once. Can’t handle crowds, or people in general anymore. Now i play world of warcraft and get drunk… its pretty fun.
LMAO!
Still, if he’s for real, that’s a genuinely sad situation.

Trying to lighten the mood, I havent seen Spyoptic on here in a while. If he wants help I hope he does seek it. I for one appreciate his time in service and would help in any way I could.
This thread is quite timely. I’m contemplating to quit drinking for good, pretty much done with it. Tried the “have 1-3 drinks get a slight buzz going and then stop” routine, which failed miserably. Once the alcohol starts flowing I usually stop at the equivalent of 12 beers (give or take).
Some indicators that I should quit: driven home drunk at least a couple times a month this past year and have had at least 1 person tell me they won’t hang out with me if I’m drinking. Just became way too aggressive when drunk and would do/say things that I would really regret the next day. I’m not talking about streaking or taking a piss in the middle of the road, but shitty stuff like permanently damaging my relationships with others.
Another desire to quit comes from the realization that my generation is so entrenched in binge drinking, which I consider to be just as destructive. I’m going to start focusing on why I started going out anyway, the social interaction. It will be interesting, but I’m up for the challenge of actually going out to have a good time without getting drunk.
My thoughts above seem scattered, but my overall feeling now (I’m about to turn 24 in a few months) is that the days of drinking are done.

Man, if I could stop at 12 drinks once the alcohol got flowing, I probably wouldn’t have started this thread. Not trying to belittle your problem (driving drunk and permanently ruining relationships is pretty bad shit), just saying.
Ha,Drinking is the ONLY thing I been doing since getting hurt. I even have a hangout across the street and established a relationship with some of the bartenders. Its going to be tough not seeing them as often but when I get back to work, ill make sure to visit every Tuesday. Buy 1,get 1 free burger and Bingo night.
