Questions for Atheist in America

Wouldn’t know it from my experience. My exposure to religious discussion at work has alway been some atheist wanting to let us know how much he despises organized religion. Had one lady get hysterical once because she eventually realized a fellow co-worker had been reading his bible during break. The whole ‘shoving it down our throat deal.’ Though, none of us wouldn’t have known his break time reading habits (aka 'shoving it down our throats), had she not looked in on his desk while he was away at the restoorm. Hardly seems the stuff of ‘white’s only.’

I’ve never personally met a true atheist. Everyone when it comes down to it believes in something.

Ironically, without god, discrimination against atheists can’t be called bad.

Out of curiosity, what state do you live in?

All groups have individuals who are guilty of shoving their beliefs down others’ throats.

There may have been a time in my youth that I was a little too proud of my beliefs but then again growing up in the Bible Belt surrounded by people who are “different” can do that to a fellow.

Well, that incident, Atlanta, Ga.

I generally keep my non belief to myself unless asked about it, in fact two very good friends of mine are very religious one being a Christian and the other being an ordained minister. At first both people where a little stand offish of me but my charm and charisma on them over.

They realized I was just like them I wasn’t going to steal their sole at night or anthing like that. In fact the preacher, when he found out my mom was very sick, said he would “pray for me and her” then apologized for saying that I then told him not to apolgize and I appreciate the gesture(I didn’t say gesture though). I don’t care what your beliefs are so long as you don’t try to push them on me, I don’t care that money says “in god we trust”, I don’t care that the pledge says “under god”, in fact when the kookie athiest guys try to complain about them I’m on the side of the religious people as I feel they give athiests a bad name.

I sometimes wish I had th eblind faith others have because a)it would be easier, and b)I think it would have made my mom feel better when I she was alive.

Agreed. I don’t understand why anyone could muster enough feigned outrage to care about a word printed on a dollar bill.

You do? Where? We should break bread sometime…

We should grant them minority status and give them food stamps…

Darwin RULEZZZZZZ!

I suggest the US drop the god in the “In God we Trust” and replace him with a true American hero like say Macho Man. How does “In Macho Man we Trust” sound?

Also a suggested a new image for the currency:

Me too. I think I decided that I was agnostic–though I obviously wasn’t familiar with the term–somewhere around the age of 9.

They have many uses, but us iniquitous infidels generally use them either to entice strippers to sit in our laps or for the insufflation of powdered narcotics.

What are ‘people of reason’, exactly? Atheism is incompatible with reason since in it’s most basic form posits that nothingness must necessarily beget something.

As opposed to believing in the fairy tales of the Bible? You call that reasonable?

Atheism is nothing more than a rejection of all super natural claims due to the lack of supporting evidence. Atheists are not claiming to know god doesn’t exist, they just have disbelief in YOUR religious (and other religions) claims.

Theism is equally offensive to our logical understanding of the universe and its laws. An uncaused entity? A being outside of time?

The simple fact is that, whether you are a theist or an atheist, you must, while trying to explain existence, resort to something outside of what we experience as “normal” in daily life, i.e. either a God who created a universe or a universe that didn’t need creating or a universe that has always existed or a universe that created itself, and so on and so forth. All of these scenarios defy human understanding.

I agree with you in that I believe that a God (not YOUR God, though) is one of the most likely explanations for existence. But I accept that I don’t actually KNOW that, and that it could be spectacularly wrong.
