But it’s not the place of the government or the people at large to tell the different relgious denominations what they should view as marriage under god. And there should be no religious obligation whatsoever to perform such marriages unless religious leaders choose to do so.

Yeah, I think I may be done too. He’s not answering any of my questions that I want to discuss and have a genuine interest as to his position on. So, there’s really nothing more to say.

I don’t know if Zeb and I have different positions or not, but I also don’t agree with homosexual marriage. So what questions do you have about that?

My questions are ‘are you against civil unions? And if so, what legal rights (ie. not allowed to visit in the hospital, no tax breaks, etc…) should gay partners be denied?’

LOL…I have not quoted a Bible verse in many posts. Your problem (one of them that is) is that you have zero arguments to put forth in order to make a valid point. You are are a very frustrated fellow!

I agree, this thread lacks something. I think it’s a good argument “for” gay marriage …

HAHAHA I think it’s become obvious to anyone who reads this thread that there are far more good arguments for, than against.
All the good posts are the ones that Zeb didn’t respond too, LOL.
I think he just likes getting the last post (just watch, he’ll post again) in and instigating emotional posts so he can ignore the good posts and pick on the emotionally driven ones.

Well, yeah. Given that you haven’t directly answered a single question of mine. And narrowly kept it focused on the single topic when it was entirely legitimate to discuss civil unions. COngratulations. Point very well-made. (not)

I didn’t see one thing that you wrote which was a good argument for gay marriage. Now, I want to apologize right now if I missed some sort of brilliant masterpiece of yours.
If I did please copy and paste it so that I can read it. I can then become one of the enlightened and then embrace your argument.
Otherwise, (if no post exists) come up with a good list of reasons why gay marriage should be sanctioned by our government.
Come on I’ll start you out:
“It’s only fair.”
“It’s the right thing to do.”
“It would make me gay friends so happy.”
“No one can be sure but we all want to say that gay’s are born that way.”
This is the tripe that I have been responding to. Now be so kind as to fill in the next few reasons why it’s such a great idea.
Come on get busy! If you have a good argument FOR gay marriage I really want to read it.

You want to discuss “civil unions” Correct?
[/quote]
Sure. Specifically, I would like to hear you say what rights that are tradtionally granted to married people should be denied to gay partners and what ones you think they should have. As far as the civil union issue goes, I don’t think any relgion should be compelled to recognize gay unions unless they want to. However, I think a civil ceremony is entirely appropriate and that they should have all legal rights that married people have. If you don’t agree, I’d like to hear some reasoning why and what rights specifically you don’t think they should be entitled.

Personally, my issue is in calling it marriage. I think that gay marriage is mocking the biblical values that established a marriage between a man and woman. So if a civil union is not called “marriage”, I don’t have a problem with it. I also don’t have an issue in giving them the same “rights” in terms of hospital visitation, tax breaks, etc? Those rights were related to what States have determined should come with a marriage and are not biblically determined in my assessment.
So I would be ok with a “Domestic Partners” union that allowed the same rights as those married. It just cannot be called a marriage.

Well, I can appreciate that. And generally feel the same way-sort of. I’m personally not convinced that God would have a problem with gays or gay marriage. But I can see why people think it. And I think the issue of legal rights should be kept separate from the religious aspects. Different relgions can and should make their own decisions on the morality of it and whether God approves.

If you believe the bible you would also believe that God does not respect Homosexual behavior.

See what you are saying. That’s a whole separate issue.
