On a pound per pound basis relative to frame, Phil Heath is likely holding more skeletal muscle relative to Bryan Shaw.
Shit … just saw last response was 24 days ago
My bad

It would certainly be interesting to see a DXA scan on both of them. It would also be interesting to see if Shaw ever got into BB’ing. A few strongmen have been semi successful in bodybuilding, and it’s a lot less taxing on your body from an injury perspective.
Tall men generally don’t fare well in competitive bodybuilding
Shaw did one. IIRC, he had over 300 lbs of lean tissue. So yes, bigger than a bodybuilder.
If we take height into account perhaps not
If I am not mistaken, 300 lbs of lean tissue is 300 lbs of everything that is not fat, correct? Not to say that he has 300 lbs of muscle.
It looks like phil heath was 5’9" and 240 during his mr O reign (even if Heath was as low as 3% BF that would be around 230 lbs of lean mass). so at 6’9" and 405, brian shaw has more “lean tissue” than phil heath has body mass. I’m not sure that 1 foot/70 lbs is enough to “cover the spread” to say that phil heath has more muscle, even on a height basis
Yes, everything but fat. Can you imagine having that much weight without any fat.
When Thor was 410 lbs, with abs, he may have been 20% body fat. That mean’s with 0 fat he would be like 330. Absolutely crazy.
O, don’t get me wrong, that is an unfathomable amount of body mass for most people to ever be able to fathom, I just wanted to make sure I understood correctly
Arnold has said 7 lbs per inch is needed to match up (So if you would be 1" taller you would need to weigh 7 lbs more to have the same muscularity). That would be 84 lbs.
I don’t like appeal to authority claims, but it is Arnold lol.
I’m not entirely sure how accurate that is (I cannot argue for or against it) but I will say it is likely Shaw’s bone density is much higher than Heath’s due to a life time of heavy lifting, so there is probably a decent chance a portion of his lean body weight is shifted into his bones.
Without seeing a full DEXA scan of both, the comparison is a shot in the dark, but fun to think about

That’s what I decided to do. Been slooooooow cutting for a while now on 300Test/100NPP.
It’s going well. Down from 20% to about 15-17%. BW is down to 200.4. Couple more pounds and I’ll be at target weight (198).
Strength has not dropped at all.
Here’s the current situation, carb depleted, cold, no pump, relaxed. Looking forward to eating again in a week or two and getting some muscle fullness back.
Looking awesome man!!! Great work!!!
Many thanks ![]()
I think that’s the best I’ve seen you even though you’re a bit flat.
I was thinking the same thing. Lookin sexy man.
Very good look. A huge improvement, definitely. Very good results.
Agreed. Starting to get lean and its showing.
