Seconded.
A confederacy of competent, bright people whose median is centrist (even as the individuals themselves comprising said confederacy are not specifically centrist) is the exact tonic needed.

Agreed but unfortunately that party doesnât exist. Itâs good to talk about the ideals but both parties are turning to the extremes as evidenced by success of Sanders on the left and Cruz/Trump on the right. An âusâ vs. âthemâ approach is how a lot of people view their opponents, and compromise is the deadly word that kills political careers.
Thank you for the compliments gentlemen, they are certainly reciprocated in kind.
Sadly Drew you are quite correct on this one in my view. Polarization has always existed in politics and specifically electoral and social issues, but I do not think I have ever seen such widespread and seemingly permanent polarization on damned near EVERY subject available in political discourse. Iâve considered the likely causes of this at length, but that is for quite another threadâŠand when I am in the mood to write a novel!
Even the widespread political unrest in the past, which Iâm not old enough to have lived through (Red Scare, McCarthyism, Vietnam protests) were only really centered around one subject. A pervasive subject, but still only one.
You know I can quite relate to the frustration of being called names for no apparent reason. Smh is more than a bit upset at the topic at hand (Trump and muslim bans, etc), and has hashed this out numerous times already with others which probably irks him even more to do againâŠ
HOWEVER, nothing he posted needed a cite. I donât know where you went to school, but I learned all this in high school, if not earlier. I donât think anybody needs to link to a copy of the Bill of Rights or the US Constitution. You know this is common knowledge. And theyâre not personal opinions. They are, as far as US Con Law is concerned, law of the land.
Define centrist.

He did.
Every liberal to his right and every conservative to the left of TB, Aragon, et al.

This thread certainly turned into a Liberal circle jerk.
You think Trump is garbage so you must be a liberal. Get the fuck out with that bullshit.
Trump didnât use the word âtemporaryâ to my knowledge. He said what you quoted and his campaign provided the statement I quoted. Both statememts could mean never. So again, I donât see how my statement was inaccurate at all.
LOLâŠI am going to have to agree with you.

Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our countryâs representatives can figure out what is going on. According to Pew Research, among others, there is great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population.
Most recently, a poll from the Center for Security Policy released data showing â25% of those polled agreed that violence against Americans here in the United States is justified as a part of the global jihadâ and 51% of those polled, âagreed that Muslims in America should have the choice of being governed according to Shariahâ.
Shariah authorizes such atrocities as murder against non-believers who wonât convert, beheadings and more unthinkable acts that pose great harm to Americans, especially women.
Mr. Trump stated, âWithout looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehensionâ.
'Where this hatred comes from and why we will have to determine. Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life.â
He does not use temporary. He states âUntil we are able to determine and understand the problem and the dangerous threat it poses.â
Banning Muslims is un-American but allowing people with highly un-American values to live in America is somehow pro American.
Folks you can either have Janae Kroc in your ladies bathroom or Muslims living in your country but you canât have both.
Did he say permanent ban?
If not then itâs open to interpretation. Personally I think it will be a temp ban in name but a permanent one in practice
