Preppers/Survivalists

Can I come hunting there, serious question?

I don’t let anyone hunt there except family and very close friends that I trust. Nothing against you Quasi, but 3 years ago I had an issue.

An acquittance from the gym knew I had a lot of land and asked if he could take his kid hunting, so being nice I obliged. Took him out showed him the stands. I have 4 stands, 3 of which have heat and AC plus cooking apparatus via propane. Electricity is also run to each stand. So, it is a nice setup. There are basically tree houses. with sliding windows and rests.

Anyways the stairs to one of the main stands are quite steep and I warned him about them. His idiot kid, who I never thought should have been near a firearm after the fact even at the age of 20. Somehow he managed to fall down the step break his arm and shoot himself in the foot. All on his own.

Anyways get him fixed up and no permanent damage and the mother fucker’s dad has the balls to sue me for unsafe stairs. Thankfully I had all the text and email correspondence with him pestering me to come out there, which saved me in court.

So now because of that dipshit I let NO ONE hunt on my property except me, family (I like), and 3 close friends who are more like brothers to me. A trust level of these guys have keys to my house, help care for the dogs when I am out of town etc.

Wow, that sounds like hunting from your home :P. Usually I tough it out in a regular stand with a couple granola bars. I’d be roasting me a steak in a stand like that and probably miss the deer.

No issues taken sir. If, well when, I own land it will be posted. Not because of the issues above, but because I don’t trust people to be responsible enough to regulate the wildlife on the land. By that I mean, don’t buy 6 tags because you can and shoot every doe. Manage the population, take only the bigger/older bucks and allow the others to grow and the herd to flourish. I also would probably do Archery only there.

And yes, people are dicks. I would have made the comment to the dad (outside of the courtroom) that maybe junior should have aimed a bit higher next time and done the world a favor by self/strerilization. He was at major fault here and wasn’t following safety rules. You don’t load your gun and then climb the stand. You load your firearm after you are in stand. I don’t recall off the top of my head if that’s a law, but its definitely safety conscious. Also, everyone should know that metal rails get frost and are slipper and wooden rails can collect and hold moisture (even more slippery than metal sometimes). Dude was an idiot, sad he was 20.

Inspired by this thread I’ve bought some basic equipment for my bug-out bag - a new folding knife (another opinel), a torch, a folding saw, matches and 550 paracord. That’s all I’ll get, but I can definitely see why “prepping” could become addictive haha! Like others have said before though I definitely feel that knowledge and physical skills are much more important than equipment.

That seems like an awesome set-up Bauber. Sorry to hear about that situation.

Folding saws are amazing. Its one of the key tools we carry in our packs when we hunt, is like the non-electric saws-all of the outdoors.

The US government is prepping for something big. So I guess it’s not that strange that other people can also see the writing on the wall.

Inform yourselves about the issues the state-run media conveniently ignores:

And don’t forget:

What is that article referencing for its source?

Also, there is something like… 300 million Americans I believe. A “force” of 20k won’t do jack when/if there was ever civil unrest across the country. Even our full military, if brought home, and law enforcement could not quell the crime/hysteria if it was nation-wide.

I hope we never see such things in our lifetime, and I hope we come to a better solution.

Hope you’re right. But 20k is more than enough to quell any minor resistance–remember how easily the feds put the entire city of Boston on lockdown during the bomber incident. All they had to do was scream SHELTER IN PLACE and the unwashed masses huddled down and let their constitutional rights be violated with warrantless house to house searches.

Remember also, in recent years that our loving government has turned DHS into a paramilitary force, arming them with billions of hollow point rounds (1.6 Billion Rounds Of Ammo For Homeland Security? It's Time For A National Conversation), thousands of fully automatic guns, mine-resistant vehicles, riot gear, and bulletproof roadside checkpoints (Why The Heck Is DHS Buying More Than A Billion Bullets Plus Thousands Of Guns And Mine-Resistant Armored Vehicles?).

And don’t forget, DHS has been training against targets of real “threats”… like shooting targets of pregnant women and children (EconomicPolicyJournal.com: DHS Supplier Provides Pregnant Looking Women Targets for "Realistic" Practice).

Regardless how you slice the facts, this doesn’t look good. The federal government is prepping for something major. So batten down the hatches and prepare yourselves as well, because it sure looks like storms are coming.

Are the sharpest and most durable blades that I’ve ever used, and I’ve used a bunch.

Nice! I’ll have to ask my father what brand his is. Its so old its got some rust on the blade, and it actually folds like a pocket knife (though its like 9" folded… giggity). That thing is by far the BEST tool to have when putting up a tree stand, it makes quick work of any and all branches. Love it!
