Pre-Westside Training

G’Day.
I train to improve my physique but, based on the writings of Poliquin, Alessi and others, my poor maximal strength is holding me back. I’m planning to try westside training. However, I’m concerned that I may burn out my CNS. I’ve done relatively little maximal strength training other than a few 5x5 cycles. However, I am accustomed to training the same bodypart 2-3 times per week. Would I be better served by doing Poliquin’s maximal weights program first or can I leap straight into westside? Finally, could anyone suggest how best to work rotator cuff training into a westside program?

Cheers.

Liam

Read the 8 keys article series by Dave Tate. Read articles by Chad Waterbury and Joe Defranco and incorporate their ideas into a Westside program.

Absolutely search the site for “Westside for Skinny Bstards”. It is the best way to get started in the Westside template. Bar none!

I agree…“Westside for Skinny…” and also the “Periodization Bible” by Dave Tate.

I do all rotator work on both speed and max bench days. I warm up with the shoulder horn with a max weight of 10lb DBs and I also cycle in rotator work as accessory moves as needed.
