Potency of Androst-1-ene?

Bill, in the magazine you said that Androst-1-ene is 2-3 times as potent
as testosterone. But others selling
1-AD say that the “1-testosterone”
it converts to, what they call Androst-1-ene,
is SEVEN times more potent than testosterone.
Which is it? Why don’t you use the 7 times
figure? They had a reference for it. Thanks.

Those others also call it “1-Testosterone” and think that their 1-ad Product is better than the A1E product that’s in MAG 10. So with that series of information coming from them, it should be obvious why they are saying that. As usual they may be twisting the truth a great deal.

Comparisons, when testing by injection
as was done here, are most commonly
done by comparing with testosterone
propionate. There are four or five
literature values for potency of
Androst-1-ene by this method, and
the values are about two times
the potency of testosterone propionate.

And normally speaking, testosterone
propionate is not more potent than
testosterone itself. It’s just a
longer acting form of testosterone.
So these results have it that
Androst-1-ene is about twice as potent.

Now, this is not an ideal comparison,
since the Androst-1-ene was not in ester
form in these tests but the testosterone
propionate was. Preferably one would compare
with like esters, though that need not be
done if instead frequent small injections
are done. (If that is done then the
ester makes no difference and if the
injections are frequent enough, it doesn’t
even matter if there’s an ester at all.)

There are comparisons of the same ethers
of testosterone and Androst-1-ene. These
yield results of Androst-1-ene being 3.6
times more potent than testosterone.

All in all this comes to about six or
seven literature references that indicate
Androst-1-ene is about two or three times
as potent as testosterone.

However one can dig up a SINGLE reference
that comes up with the more spectacular
number of seven times… but even that
reference finds Androst-1-ene to be
twice as potent, not seven times as potent,
as testosterone propionate. Their results,
unusually and spuriously,
found testosterone to be only about 1/4
as potent as testosterone propionate,
and so when the calculation is made using
their errant result for testosterone, you
get seven times.

The claim of seven times results from fishing
for the most spectacular number, not from
an honest assessment of the literature.
