Maybe it’s not you and it’s the people that respond to you with pats on the back, I’m probably even more reserved than you on this issue, though. I can not see myself stepping in unless the woman is being absolutely thrashed, and I would imagine most people in this thread would respond if a man raised a hand period.
If I see a woman getting beat down, I am more likely to do something. If I see an average spousal dispute, I mind my own business regardless of how loud they get. What I wrote before, the same as you pointed out, is that you become a target if you attempt to jump in between those two people unless it is to save the life of one of them. I agree that women are notorious for raising hell until the cops show up and then they are defending the man even if he hurt her. That is why in most situations it would be stupid to jump in. What you saw me responding to was the stupidity of “irish muscle”.

This is really the only time I get involved with situations.
I am in complete disagreement with Professor X and the rest of the posters in this thread on stepping into domestic disputes, even if a woman is being physically abused.
It would have to be so blatant and so vicious for me to do anything that I’d probably take longer to respond than someone else. Almost every single time the woman is going to end up telling the police you came up and attacked her significant other, and it’s not worth the hassle unless the woman is clearly being beaten into submission.

I think you’re justified in being annoyed, but a lot of people just don’t think when it comes to this stuff. We have a restaurant nearby with take out spots that are obviously horizontal. I went in the other night and this guy had parked his crown vic vertically, which ended up blocking the other cars who were parked in the regular spots.
I would say something if it was handicapped. There was a disabled vet that use to work out at the Gold’s by my house in Boston. He was there everyday, no matter the weather. It really burned my ass when someone took the handicap spot and got out of the car (and was not disabled). I pointed it out and he told me to go fuck myself. I saw the vet trying to get out of his car at another non-handicap spot across the lot and offered him help. He just shrugged it off and said luckily it didn’t happen that often. Sometimes, people can be dicks, but if you can help out, it makes you feel better.
He wouldn’t be parking in handicap spots if he was dead…just saying.
I just can’t stand people being mean or rude to cashiers, waiters, etc. If I’m in the lineup I’ll usually say something if the guy or girl is being a total asshole for no reason. Most of the time people are called on something, they think a minute, and apologize to the worker.
I’m driving my winter vehicle, a late 90s diesel pickup truck. People ALWAYS race me to the red light and pass me angrily when I’m already doing 10km/h over the speed limit. Christ

That’s because they don’t want to be stuck behind you breathing your noxious fumes.

That is probably the best idea if I were going to do anything at all…and it’s funny as hell.
you could take it a step further and actually set the building on fire-to teach the woman a lesson, of course.

That is the truth.
Nothing like a big cloud of diesel blowing in your grill.

Agreed. I always try to get around diesel pick ups and big trucks.
It sucks to be stuck behing one of those slow pokes going 6.2 MPH over the limit.

I just read this…
Now you will have to figure out if the mileage per gallon rate will make it more economical to drive a diesel. Diesel fuel does go further per gallon than gasoline. The reason diesel engines can operate on less fuel is due to the additional torque.
Diesels outshine hybrids because their fuel efficiency is actually better than some of the hybrids. Looking at a Past in the diesel version, it has a MPG of 32.5. The same vehicle with a gasoline engine gets 25.5 miles to the gallon.
These are the same cars with the only difference being the type of engine under the hood. The clear advantage is that the diesel gets more miles per gallon of fuel, running on a fuel that already costs less.
Its mileage, and no it doesn’t. The difference is so small, its now worth purchasing a diesel car just for “better mileage”.
This too…
Fuel Economy
Advantage: Diesel
Diesel fuel has a higher energy density than gasoline. One gallon of diesel contains approximately 147,000 BTUs of energy, while a gallon of gasoline only has 125,000 BTUs. This means it takes more gasoline to equal the power output of diesel, making diesel engines more efficient per gallon of fuel burned. Also, because diesel engines use the more efficient direct fuel-injection method (fuel injected directly into cylinder) compared to the port fuel-injection setup in gas engines where gas is mixed with incoming air in the intake manifold, the diesel system has little wasted or unburned fuel.
Diesels also use about one third as much fuel at idle as gasoline units. Even though there are no official EPA-mileage figures for 3⁄4-ton and bigger trucks, we’ve seen diesels get six to eight more mpg than similar-weight gas pickups. Over the life of the truck, this advantage could be significant, especially if you drive a lot of miles.

It’s a 99, dodge ram cummins turbo diesel. right now I have 299000km on it and the mileage is still decent, anywhere from 20-25mpg. I got it for free though so I’m not going to complain.
Diesel does have a higher energy content per volume, and you do get way better mileage. The only thing that concerns me is the diesel particulate matter that spews out at times, which is linked to many cancers.

diesel engines experience higher compression in their cylinders, so the engines are built, not better, but much sturdier. So you do get a very durable engine.
