Police Dogs? Questions!

It is so wrong for police to use dogs. Dogs are not nearly intelligent enough.

What?

The only problem I could ever have with it is that I love dogs so much, I hate to see them put in harms way.

I think police should use hyenas, or maybe leopards. That would be awesome.
Haha! I agree though, don’t enjoy seeing animals used for our own means, and put in danger.

Now a leopard on a leash would more than likely deter a would-be criminal from running away.

Animals are cops.

In my home city we have a huge parade similar to Mardi Gras every year with beads and all that. I knew somebody who threw beads and a police horse and was arrested for assault on an officer.

Explain. From what I’ve seen they get the job done.

Yea. Let’s use chimps.

Then they’d take over.
That would be a cool movie.

Most dogs out there would be lucky to be a police dog. They are by there handlers side constantly, have a family to go home to, and get to “play” all day long. It’s really a win-win situation. That’s not even to mention the protection that they are given under the law.

Well, shouldn’t we let some leopards and other such predatory animals be just as lucky? Maybe a silverback mountain gorilla?

Let’s not discriminate against the rest of the animal kingdom, when they all could enjoy loyal companionship, and the occasional opportunity to tear a criminal a new asshole.

Good for you Mufasa, personally I would not be brave enough to get close enough to check

Good post and intersting Q&A

You wouldn’t get any opposition from me if you wanted to let a rabid hyena take off after a criminal.

We had a female drug dog in Great Lakes, named Lyka. She was awesome, and liked me from the start. I wasn’t her handler, and her handlers would always try to discourage me from petting her, to which she would usually bark at them instead of me.

Thought drug dogs were all trained the same, but ours were trained to sit calmly when they found something, not bark and scratch.
The drug dogs I’ve seen here in the UK are trained like that. They stand near their handler normally but when they sit slightly closer to a suspect then that’s the signal.

I did come through customs at Hull once and saw a trainee drug dog at work on a large pile of baggage. He went mental over one bag which was obviously pulled out much to the absolute horror of the girl who owned it. One of the mature dogs didn’t even bat an eye at it when he had a sniff.

Turns out the youngster had a bit of a thing for aniseed balls.

I went through baggage claim in South Africa in December last year, and smelled a delicious burger.

Is was a woman, eating her lunch, while the sniffer dog was inspecting bags. Not the best idea I would’ve thought, though SA is one big joke.

“Stop or I’ll release the tiger!”

that would make you shit your pants.

Get your hands off me you damn dirty apes!

Dogs are instant respect in Law Enforcement. Many times a suspect will be hiding and then the K-9 rolls up. “Come out or we’re sending in the dog!” all the while the dog is barking like a rabid beast! “The dog will bite!” That always flushes them out.

Its not law enforcement but it is anti theft!
