Can you imagine getting some citation in the mail 2 years later? [/quote]
I can imagine it well, except it was over 5 years later. It wasn’t driving related, though.
I recently got a letter regarding unemployment I collected in California. They claim to have overpaid me and, with fines, penalties, and interest, I now owe a nice chunk of change. I collected unemployment in early 2004 – over 5 years ago.
It’s a real fucking nice situation to deal with since I don’t have any records from shit that long ago. Hurray Government!

Send a letter back with a bill enclosed for $1 million claiming your records show otherwise and that you are adding in late fees, fines, and inconvenience charges.

Is there a way to fight it? I am sorry to hear of your situation, don’t take it personally because the state is in financial ruin right now.
If you want to know HOW bad things are? The state is considering releasing 37,000 inmates from state prisons to save money. This, following a riot in the Chino state prison where they resorted to throwing their own feces at each other. And they want to release these types of people. With a bad economy, no jobs, no programs for them, what do you think they will do? Yep, rob, steal, and kill.
noone ever said the clowns running that state had any sense.
