That’s the part that bothers me. He could’ve stepped outside , made his presence known and told them they couldn’t park there. That’s how I know it’s more about money than enforcing the law.

There is an elementary school just down the block from me with a really bad intersection when it comes to visibility. The crossing guard, who wears a police vest, parks under a ‘no parking’ sign and makes two of the street blind to each other.

BTW: There is no parking on the dance floor

Buuuuut…

Can there be dancing in teh parking lot?

The whole situation is bullshit.

Exactly…if his goal was to serve and protect, and to avoid “pissing matches” etc, he would be standing out there kindly reminding people that they can’t park there. But apparently the only police officer posting in this thread can’t use judgment there either.

I think that seagull got the idea from the Mitch Hedberg joke about a duck stealing bread from a convenience store!

When mine were in grade school like this police actualy directed traffic, and teachers were at the drop off points to attend to the kids so the parents would not have to park or get out. Not a hard problem to solve, its just people in power passing the buck. And the city making a buck.
clinton131 wrote:
Can’t say for sure what is going on with the parking issue cause only one side of the issue is being presented…but did you ever consider that your bitch might not be with the “Po” “Po”?

Obviously they are the ones handing out the tickets because…last time I checked it was their job. And I can say that I doubt that they hardly enjoy sitting out in front of an elementary school handing out tickets to a bunch of parents that they KNOW are going to be pissed off when they return to their car and find a ticket on their windshield. Yea…Cops love to get in pissing matches all the time with people over stupid shit just so they can “abuse their power” and look like assholes to the people they serve.

First of all, alot of the time these type of situations begin with the parents. A parent gets pissed off because they have no place to park when they drop off their kid, or get double parked in by some other jackass parent dropping their kid off. That parent then bitches to school administration and tells them they have to do something about the “parking problem”.

The school adminstrator attempts to fix the problem by sending notices home with the students, notifing the parents that they can’t park in a certain way / place. When the parents ignore the memo and the parent complaints keep coming in they then call the Police to “fix” their parking issue. When the Chief or whatever command officer receives the complaint, the complaint then gets passed down the chain of command, which eventually gets assigned to the patrol officers who are ordered by their supervisor to issue parking tickets in order to “fix” the problem.

Rest assured that the officer who drew the short straw on this does not enjoy enforcing it. It is a no win situation for him / her, because naturally they are going to be the one that looks like the asshole. Yes, they would love to be doing something “more important” than writing parking tickets, but unfortunately for them it is their job, and they may not have any choice in the matter.

So, instead of bitching on this forum about how much of a powertrip the officers are on by enforcing the parking laws, maybe you should address this issue with your school board to come up with some solutions. Maybe they can open up some more parking somewhere, better educate the parents who are dropping off / picking up their kids, etc…

Address the problem…don’t be part of it.
You have made a reasonable lucid point and I concur. But you do realize that it can still be some enterprising cocksucker that decided he was going to write tickets that day right? Because, we both know it’s within his discretion and those abuses and departures from common fucking sense DO occur every single fucking day right?

Fair enough…

Ahem…

The problem is the state monopoly on power ie the police. There is no incentive for cops to serve the people: cops serve the state. There are better ways to handle crime besides putting uniforms on thugs and calling them the protectors of society.

This is one reason I have a disdain for the cops. I mean, I understand why they messed with me. But, doing dumb shit like this I don’t know. I just don’t get it. If I was the cops, I would be more worried about catching people that fucked people’s lives up, not someone that parked in a no parking zone.
^^ Cops aren’t supposed to arbitrarily enforce the laws. They aren’t SUPPOSED to decide which laws they want to enforce and which laws they don’t. Start doing that with traffic violations and you get going down a slippery slope brah.
That is right, they are not supposed to do it, yet apparently they are in this case otherwise the parents would not have been parking there all along.

A couple of things, please…

 • I think Clinton131’s point was that, in all likelihood, the officer was ordered to write tickets. I don’t know the officer…maybe he is an ass. But, I would be more inclined to think, from experience, that the officer was likely in roll call that morning and his sergeant said, “Go write tickets for parking.” Sarge says do it…you go do it.

 • The sergeant’s actions were likely dictated by the chief, who probably got a complaint about parking from the school. Now, HERE’S WHERE I DISAGREE…the chief’s decision (or the sergeant’s) immediate response was to have some officer go write tickets, instead of ACTUALLY FIXING THE PROBLEM. (i.e., by getting with the school administration and finding a better, more permanent solution to the parking issue)

 • I don’t know how big Arlington, VA is, or how the city management interacts with the police department. Some cities work well with them, some don’t. Some city councils are beset with corruption…others aren’t. I would need more information before forming an opinion about the Arlington police in general.

 • Someone mentioned Southlake, TX earlier. Most of that info is probably true. They DO NOT have two helicopters. That’s just not true. Southlake has a VERY wealthy tax base, and is a small department…that’s how they afford the equipment they have. If you think they are buying all that equipment with ticket money, you are sadly mistaken.

AC in Chicago now, every light has a camera on it, you take a yellow even slightly late, you will get a a ticket in the mail for $100 also provided is a weblink you can go to, to see your own dumb ass do it, its a real kick in the nuts.

On most busy streets, now they all have meters, you can now pay with a credit card, you go up to a little machine and throw in $2 which is THE MAXIMUM you can put in, which will give you 2 hours, you will have to come back or reload because if the meter bitches come, who are now a private comapany not chicago cops will give you a nice $100 ticket as well.

You get a moving violation in Chicago the cops still take away your license and you have to “drive on a ticket” you wont get your license back until you pay, then they will send it in the mail.

We have to pay $70 a year for a Chicago City Sticker just to park on a regular street in the city, meter or not, there is no free parking in Chicago, you pay one way or another.

I also had a tail light out once, i was not pulled over, a Chicago cop can simply take a picture of it and send you a ticket in the mail with the proof that is was out, if they are too lazy to pull you over.

These are just a few things, this city sucks the life out of you as well.
SSOOOO why and the fuck do you live there Cuban. Come on down to Texas man you’ll love it chicas everywhere.

^^

True.

^^

Tell him man.

Alright…I will.

Cuban, if you have never been to TX, you are really missing out. And I say that as a man who grew up elsewhere (NH, to be specific).

Been around the world with the Army, spent lots of time in Boston growing up. Not saying that there aren’t some good looking women there, but I have never seen as high a concentration of good looking women as I have here in TX. They are, literally, everywhere.

The first time I went to Austin, I almost wept with joy at all the lovely things walking around. Dallas and Fort Worth are the same way. San Antonio, too. (I can’t speak for Houston…never been there long enough.)

White girls are mainly my game, typically eastern european, like fishing with dynamite. The Mexican chicas dont tend to like me too much, us islanders (Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans) sometimes dont get a long with the mainland Hispanic folks too much, its a different breed
we look different, eat different foods, like different music, and speak the language at times very differently. I never understood why Mexicans became the “representatives of Latin America” every time some ignorant bastard asks me what my background is, i have them guess, and i always get “Mexican” first, Nevermind that there is not one physical feature besides skin tone that looks mexican, they just say it because its the defacto response.
I believe it, my wife is Mexican, I have staff that work for me that are Mexican and Puerto Rican. While the culture does have similarities there are many differences. See me being white and hillbilly I have always dated Hispanic (dont care where they are from really), black and asian. That was like fishing with dynamite for me. To each his own. I still think Brazilian ass beats them all.

I’ve been everywhere, man, and I can vouch for this ^.

This wasn’t my experience in San Antonio at all. There were hardly any hot women around and the town overall was a real let down. I drove from San Antonio to Big Bend and Guadalupe National parks and back to San Antonio. Beautiful scenery, fat unattractive women. I didn’t expect much in the desert, but the city itself really was a disappointment. I’m going to check out Houston soon. Hopefully it’ll be much better.

Really Sam wow where did you go? River walk at night is a good spot. There are like 7 colleges in San Antonio area, but it has been a few years since I have been there on the hunt. You want to know Houston there are many on T-Nation that live in Houston. I am old and married so I dont know where to go in this town.

^^

Really? I’m sorry to hear that…I saw lots of “scenery” down there that I thought was nice.

I would definitely recommend Austin and Fort Worth. Dallas has some beautiful women too, but they tend to be a little too high maintenance, in my opinion.

You might want to talk to Prof X about Houston. He’s from there, I believe.
