Playstation 3 or Xbox 360?

why is it that xbox and playstation dont share servers? is it because xbox & ps3 are hosting their servers independently?

do microsoft and mac games run on seperate networks too?

Yes, they all have their own networks. Which is a shame, because it would be great if you could play, say, Call of Duty with friends who game on PCs or on the other console.

i just got xbox so now i have both and i have to say unless u plan on playing live with your friends on xbox ps3 is the way

its be great for the platform developers and gamers but the console company would get all teary eyed seeing everyone have fun and them not caking off from it.

Bought my PS3 on Christmas Eve after work. Went to Target and the chick in front of me got last one. Went to Walmart across the street and I got the last one there. =)

Wanted to get Oblivion but they didn’t have it so I went with Fallout 3, pretty sick game so far and looks amazing on the HDTV using HDMI connection. Probably gunna pick up Oblivion tonight if Fry’s has it in stock.

i remember Fallout 2, that game was pretty sick. i eventually just used one of those programs where you edit the stats though.

from the commercials im guessing fallout 3 is a turn based rpg?

I forget what turn based is exactly but I don’t think so.

Its basically just a first person shooter combined with an RPG. Instead of doing quests and killing shit with swords or magic or whatever you are using bombs, guns, melee weapons also, etc… There’s no waiting for turns if thats what a turn based is.

Think of a typical first person shooter, now imagine that but its done in RPG fashion as in you do quests, you are in control of everything your character does. You can decide to do whatever you want, instead of just being on X mission to complete Y task and when you finish that task you have beaten the level.

Instead you roam around and find new things, quests, towns, etc. Kill raiders, ghouls, etc and take their shit. Food, weapons, armor, etc.

Don’t know, haven’t played metal gear yet. I did download the free demo of Metal Gear 4 last night though, haven’t gotten a chance to try it out yet though. Just set the PS3 to download with auto shutoff after download completion.

sounds cool. the old version was turn based, think FF7 or something and you just walked around town doing random shit, shooting people if you wanted to. you could improve attributes like “ladies man” which made chicks want to bang you but the dudes wanted to fight you. there was stuff like that, and ya know the basic RPG stuff.

check out call of duty if you like shooters. the most recent; world at war is good and so is modern warfare. theyre pretty much identical except whether or not you like modern or older weapons and there is some different features too and maps but aside form those theyre really the same.

Wow, we got a lot of ps3 fanboys out there…and most of you comment on the fact the ps3 is better because of the bluray player, thats already a given. Both the 360 and ps3 have both cons and pros…

XBL cost money for the gold acct.
360 can be modded.
PSN is free to play online.
Can install other OS (linux) on ps3!

I have both and the only time I use the ps3 is to watch movies. When the same game is released for both ps3 and 360, I would go for 360…

IMO, right now, xbox360 is better. The developers have had time to fully use xbox360’s graphics and hardware and now the games are amazing (from when it came out). The 360 is way cheaper for a video game console. Also, the new XMBC update for the 360 is amazing (ie: Netflix, transfering 360 games from disc to hard drive).

PS3 is still a bit hard for the developers to develop games for the ps3 (ie. bugs). But in a few years the developers will be able to make games that will harness the full power of the ps3, and thus will be better than the 360 hands down (graphics wise).

I’d take a look at the list of games, and deduce what’s better suited for you. Xbox, despite its new interface, still holds the older age bracket for gaming, so I’m not sure if that’s a factor much.

You’re going to find incredible, quality games on both systems anyway, and the PS3 certainly has its share of adult games. Both have great graphics, gameplay, controls, and “extra features.”

Also, depending on how you play games, though, there’s a big difference. Xbox Live is much more soundly run and accessible than PSN’s network, IMO. As far as online gaming goes, nothing touches the 360, and that’s practically not even debatable.

If you do get a 360, though, don’t fall into the Gears of War trap. [Overrated as fuck.]

I’d go into more specs but I don’t have the time now, I’ll try to touch on the subject more later tonight.

The only “correct” answer is to buy both.

Agreed.

I haven’t played a PS3 so I can’t comment on it, but I have no complaints with the xbox 360 as far as games are concerned.

As those who are arguing price, I think everything evens out once you add in what you want to do.

I’m trying to get a little media network going on in my home since I got tired of burning DVDs. Now I have to go out and get a wireless network adapter (found a cheaper alternative) which the PS3 has built in.

That’s also because I can’t upgrade my HDD, which the largest option is 120gb which is around $130. And to add insult to injury I can’t add my own content, only Microsoft’s. Even if I could these Blu-Ray movie rips are runnig 8GB a pop, so I’d kill the Microsoft hard drive before I got started.

So when it’s all said and done the PS3 is definitely the better option as far as a media center is concerned.

No. It’s a real-time action. However, they have a very cool combat system: you have action points which you can use up to pause the game, choose an enemy’s bodypart, and then the game will automatically make the shots for you. While paused in this way, the game shows you the probability with which your attack will be succesful.

I’m playing this game right now, and it is absolutely huge. I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever played a game that wasn’t a straight RPG with this kind of depth, flexibility and sheer content. It looks great, too. I haven’t played the new GTA, but I gotta say that fallout 3 is the best open-ended game I’ve ever played.

The one negative thing I can say about it, though, is that they skimped on the soundtrack. There’s 20 superb songs, but they’re only about 3 minutes long each, and in a game that you can play for 30+ hours without completing it fully, that is REALLY not enough.

I’ll tell you the limiting factor in really enjoying the games on either the PS3 or 360: the cost of the games.

Do they really need to cost $60 a pop? I’d probably buy twice as many games if they were $40 per game.

But maybe that’s just me.

Yeah, but realistically, most of the games for all systems aren’t worth buying so you would end up paying about the same if you bought more.

It causes me to pay attention to the ones that are actually worth the money more.

I bought Prince of Persia because everyone was claiming how great it was going to be. I hate it. It looks great but it’s overly repetitive, takes very little thought and has you literally finishing a huge section of the game and then going right back through it again in order to move further.

I plan to sell it back to Gamestop when I have the chance.

Most people fall into limited gaming categories it seems. You either love first person shooters or hate them. The same goes for puzzle solving free roaming games like God of War or Tomb Raider (the ones I like).

I don’t care for FPS games. Never have. n fact I can’t play any game that limits my field of vision to just what I can see right in front of me.

I like the games which give you a third person POV, and don’t require you to master the 8-button movement combinations.

I’m a Splinter Cell whore. I don’t know what class of game that falls under, but I do pretty good with those types of games.

I’ve always been a playstation fan but I just got the 360 and I can’t justify spending sixty dollars on a game.

The games seem so short. I bought gears of war because everybody says how great it is(fun but overated) and you can beat it in a few hours. Maybe the online play keeps you entertained for a much longer time but I never wanted to spend money on hard drive, modem, subscription. The 200 dollar price and the fact that most games are offered on both platforms is what attracted me to the 360.

I think the best way to go is rent from gamefly and if you find a game that keeps you entertained longer than five minutes go and buy it used.

I think 90% of my husband’s gaming is online.
