A Planet Fitness just opened up in the Northern Virginia area. I passed it on my way to a poker tournament the other day. On one of my days off I will take a ride out there and get a guest pass for the day. I promise I will get kicked out within the first half of my workout. I will post a whole report on it on this thread. =)
To Petedacook. I’m telling ya bro, get out of that golds and come into my place. You’ll be much happier.

As I was reading this, I was thinking “man, we should crash that place together.”
I am about dyeing to get out of Gold’s, but I am locked in a 2 year contract now. It was cool when I was first starting back, but now it’s not so cool. I imagine in a few more months it will be even less cool, and just get worse.

Franchised gyms suck. The best gyms are the whole’s in the wall that are dark, dank, smelly, and completely covered in chalk. You’ll know you’ve found one of these gyms when you walk through the front door and don’t hear Britney Spears or Kelly Clarkson on the fucking sound system…
Unfortunately, I lift at a NY Health and Racquet club, which I’m sure is just as bad as a Planet Fitness. I’m telling you, franchised gyms man, stay away from them…
The gym I work out at is like that, its just the one I’ve got at school so its free. But does anybody know of any of the “hole in the wall” gyms in Nashville, TN?? If so let me know - I need to find one.
I go to a Powerhouse Gym when I’m back at my parents’ during breaks. Plenty of benches, not 1, not 2, but 3 squat racks, just as many pull up stations, and like 4 of each kind of bench, with DBs that go up to 175. I don’t need those (yet) but it’s nice to know.

I’m up for that. Its in Eden Center in Seven Corners. I have a particularly loud grunt planned for my heavy sets. We may have to keep it to shoulder work because DB’s stopping at 80 will not allow me to get a full back or chest workout in. Arms I wouldn’t get the stimuli required to fully grunt and annoy them.
Or we could work legs with deads. But that will get us kicked out too quickly. =)
If I ever become ridiculosuly rich, I will make a chain of gyms with no machines that are entirely weightlifter and powerlifter friendly. It will be against the rules to NOT use chalk, make loud noises, and drop weights excessivley.

Dude, you guys have got to camcorder this when you go. Even if it’s just a camera phone.
When they finally tell you to get out, be sure to hit a most muscular pose in the manager’s face and growl/yell a la Loooouie in the Incredible Hulk.
If you do this, it is sure to go down as one of the greatest videos in T-Nation history.
Theres a planet fitness by here… According to the guy there its “A judgement free zone” and “they’ve removed all the big weights” I thought I had entered the twilight zone. Total bs.

I was thinking dumbells stopping at 80 is a hindrance also. Squats and deadlifts would be killer, but I guess deadlifts would be an immediate exit. I like the idea of shoulders. I could create some noise with shoulders

Let me know what days you’re free and we will set it up. I’ll come fully spiked up and we will have some fun.
It would be great if someone who LIKED “PF” would post…
I seriously would like to know what their “mission” or “goal” or business model really is.
A guy in the “man grunts, gets kicked out of gym” thread posted a defense of them. It makes sense. Basically, it’s this: “We get a lot of people to sign up, no one shoes up, so we make a profit. If you don’t like it, don’t join the gym.”
Libertarian that I am, I agree: If you don’t like PF, don’t join. Don’t join and then gripe about it.

haha! Wish I had a car to get over there into Maryland. I go to school at American University in DC. Definitely update us on how that goes.
That gym disgusts me. It’s more like a gym for the elderly, even then.
Seriously go to the PF gym and do some loud grunting on video, then flex right in front of the gym owner’s face and be like, I NEED TO GRUNT TO KEEP MY MUSCLES HYOOOOOOGE!! then point to the surrounding people and be like, they don’t grunt, they stay small, weak and PATHETIC!!
