Indeed. Rome conquered then colonized everybody in their path, made them commercial trading partners, gave them protection and collected taxes from them. A plan I contend may still have had us speaking Latin today if it were not for the spectacularly unstable leadership at the top over time.
A long string of Trajans may have changed history forever, but the rise and fall of crackpot Emperors and their excessive taxation and insane spending is what did them in, in a nutshell, in my opinion.

Well I’ll counter with many in the academic world (social sciences) know why they vote Democrat. A lot of them want a socialist environment.
