Not legally in GA. The fact that you are very likely not to go to jail doesn’t change the legality of it.
Could you refer me to one (or more) of these posts or send me in the right direction (what thread is it on)? I don’t really wish to open an argument/debate about electoral validity but I’d be very interested to hear what you have to say.
Maybe you know something I don’t?
"But the language in the law doesn’t ban only political entities from handing out water.
Keith Williams, general counsel to Republican House Speaker David Ralston, told PolitiFact: “Any individual other than a worker at a polling place is prohibited from handing out water, etc., within 150 feet of a polling place or within 25 feet of the line.”
Election law experts reached similar conclusions.
“I read the solicitation provision and the prohibition on food and water at the polls to be separate prohibitions in the law,” said Richard Hasen, a University of California Irvine election law professor. “It is not limited to those who are soliciting votes.”
Justin Levitt, a Loyola Marymount University law school professor, told PolitiFact: “I read, and I believe courts would read, SB 202 to prohibit anyone from giving food or water to any voter in line.”
That’s not the point. Do you enjoy being obtuse for fun?
I recall St Louis DA releasing dozens of rioters, while arresting the lawyer couple brandishing guns after their neighborhood was broken into.
I’m sure that type of judicial attitude doesn’t exactly draw applicants to the city that has climbed to the top of the violent crime list.
I believe the catalyst was a bank robbery in LA where dudes with body armor and high powered rifles with armor piercing bullets utterly outgunned half the LAPD in a shootout. LAPD had to go and buy AR15s from a nearby gun store during the shootout.
If I’m wrong about a policy specific, I’ll admit it. I’ll admit I’m not as informed about a specific GA law as I am the topic of this thread. Maybe I am wrong about that specific, but my point still stands.
This is a thread about a nationwide, top down campaign to defund and otherwise neuter the the police, yet here we are discussing local voting laws in Georgia as an example of how Republicans are just as terrible.
It’s absurd.
If posters want to say that polarization is only a product of the left, that is also absurd, and it is absurd to not expect to have pushback when things like that are posted.
I agree there is a problem with the media and how it portrays police. How it portrays blacks being victims of the police (the data doesn’t support that). I am happy to discuss that. I just don’t necessarily agree one side is all at fault and the other is a shining beacon of reason.
Something I’m not well versed on and would like clarification on (given this is a police related topic) is the INITIAL law enforcement related response towards the George Floyd riots vs the State Capitol riots.
There was a discrepancy regarding federal response, but were arrest rates for both riots similar? Were the demographics similar (what percentage were armed?) The goal of the protestors was of significance/malignant in nature). Were fatality rates equitable?
I’m legitimately asking, I saw photos of officers taking selfies with the protestors within the state capitol riots. It appears federally mandated responses may have differed, hence the perceived discrepancy in conduct.
If anyone could quickly verse me in this it’d be much appreciated.
As opposed to the many, many examples on here regarding how terrible the left and only the left are?
I don’t like politics. It’s a game of appeasing to the largest demographic possible through superficial interactions, ham fisted policies and broken promises. Corruption is abound, and emotion triumphs logic… it’s all profoundly infuriating
Having beliefs that cater towards a given political stance is great… But the aspect of getting into politics… Ugh
A judge barred her from that case. She’s much more a psychotic activist than she is a prosecutor.
Number 1 killer of black males = other black males
Number 1 releasing agent of same = Kim Gardner
Clown world
I think the capital fiasco was a lot like other “riots” or protests. Some bad actors. Some goof balls. Some just wanting to mill around. Ive been in riots. You saw the video I sent you. In those riots were people that were also peacefully protesting.
I dislike politics too bro. Should be completely rethought
It looks like the pushback has actually strengthened the case. If we have two main parties, one a party that’s lying about racism to actively neuter the police and the best example of equivalent behavior in the other party is election security concerns, well…
That seems like pretty one-sided degeneracy to me. I’d need to dig back to the actions of the Neocons during the Iraq war lead up to find something remotely equivalent on the conservative side. Even supporting that still leaves room for something besides profound stupidity or sociopathy to explain why someone supported it.
Plenty of concerns coming from the right, too. I just happen to see and have to deal with firsthand the failed and increasingly unhinged policies of the left.
It pusses me off because I ray do care about black Americans and they have NO voice against these people; ironically mostly delusional white liberals. We get a lot of head nods, thank you’s, and assistance finding suspects from black citizens. Why are their needs ignored ???
This can probably be said about most riots. The minority of delinquents are typically those who breach “peaceful” conduct and have the potential to cause a lot of damage.
Protesting is one thing, rioting is another; they aren’t unanimous with one another. You or I could voice our displeasure and even form a gathering provided it is legal to do so. Throwing Molotov cocktails, trespassing and looking for people to harm should never be associated with genuine protesting aside from those pushing back against fascist regimes and the likes.
I tend to avoid this kind of environment like the plague, though I assume due to occupational circumstances you have to brave the brunt of these hellscapes. Not worth being around a protest if/when it starts getting out of hand. Half of the time those rioting aren’t even rioting to support a cause, rather it’s mob mentality and an excuse to steal things. Awful conduct… Even if frustrated, breaking things and putting others in harm’s way probably isn’t going to be conducive towards getting your way. It’s like a child throwing a temper tantrum.
I suppose people get carried away in the moment as frequently tends to be the case with mob mentality. Not to excuse antisocial behaviour, but I can comprehend why it occurs.
It’s just that in any other budget scenario, if your department didn’t spend the money one year, your department would lose that money in the following years budget.
So maybe a completely normal budgeting issue is being spun by both sides.
And if there are actually More cops on the streets, while the city pays less for it, it’s a good thing.
Donald Trump pulling troops out of Northern Syria leaking to a Turkish invasion and subsequent massacre of civilians was pretty bad. To my knowledge it was known this would occur beforehand.
Don’t know how many supported this, but it happened
My concern is the very real possibility this “defund” is a “Trojan Horse” ploy. These people are openly and unapologetically anti police. Not just anti bad police. Most officers rely on overtime to get by. They want to slash the overtime too. You will only see good solid officers leaving.
The left has become insatiable in their quest for “justice.” None will suffer more than black Americans. Watch.
Yea definitely. Typical herd mentality all human beings are prone to.
@unreal24278 Nobody is making the case that the Republicans are or ever have been a perfect institution of pure ideas and actions above reproach.
A big part of why I became conservative is that a recognition of human imperfection is better woven into conservative policies and principles.
Division often gets confused with disagreement. I was alive when disagreement was just as common as today but division was not. It is not and has not been the Republicans who moved us away from the comparatively harmonious 1990s and 2000s. They’re saying mostly the same things the always have.
Democrats are the ones pushing ideas that start with lies and leave no room for disagreement, calling anyone who disagrees a racist.
That’s sowing division, not a good faith policy disagreement.
