The US needs to do something about gang culture… Roughly 3 million US citizens are believed to be part of a gang… That’s almost 1% of the population… That’s a terrifying statistic.
It’s not only poverty that mediates this paradigm… Plenty of impoverished communities (like Jews in Brooklyn) don’t have issues with systematic gang related activity. Poverty plays a part, but yobbo culture in particular tends to eventuate an outcome steeped in crime and delinquency.
Maybe I sound like an old man, but the relentless stream of gang / gangsta / OG / killer / muthafcukamuthafcukamuthafcukamuthafcukamuthafcuka / NwordNwordNwordNwordNwordNword / messaging to young Americans is probably not helping, aside from getting extremely old.
There used to IceT, who wrote good songs about his life on the street (while also clearly anti drugs) and the DeJayJazzyJeff or whoever singing about the good life etc. Now, nothing is allowed to be heard except the doommurdercrap.

Ice T is your wholesome rap example? He was just as much a punk rocker and metal artist as he was a rapper, but he really pushed the envelope on a lot of stuff, with some of it directly pertinent to this thread.
I agree as a whole the rap genre has continued to stray from my personal values as I’ve grown older, but I don’t think it is a cause of culture more than it is an outgrowth of culture. It’s not like the rap music I grew up with was guiding me towards any better life decisions.
We used to cruise around in a Ford Topaz bumping songs about murder all of the time. Nobody I know has acted out anything in those songs beyond drug dealing back in the 90’s when we were just kids.

Long story short, lack of fathers is a much bigger problem than whatever music the kids have been playing lately. So much of my stuff shocked and disturbed my parents, who were 1960’s and 70’s rockers, which shocked and disturbed their parents. So it goes, on and on.
Dads are still the best way for guiding young men through life so they don’t turn into violent sociopaths. Always have been, always will be.
As true now as it was at the dawn of humanity. But there is also the wider culture, including of those fathers themselves, absent or not. There are, where I’m from, social groups who do not value literacy, at all, who value male physical bravery and violence above all else, who tolerate and promote criminality as a way to put food on the table and a large vehicle under you, etc. etc. These are not usually groups where the father is absent, not remotely, he’s right there telling the young lad to man up, fists up, and charge in head first without a moments thought. School, whatever. College, fcuk that. If they were Vikings, it would be a great upbringing, but in the modern world it doesn’t work out well for most.
If I was to guess, I’d say the reason why so many Black Americans are conservative/right voters is that they don’t really care if their elected representatives are borderline “racist” or not. They just want society to drop the tolerance of wasted life culture.

Oh it’s an uphill battle no matter what at this point. You can’t pass a law to undo cultural and family issues that span generations, no matter what the race or place may be. It won’t work in Chicago, it won’t work in meth farming country and it won’t work across town where everyone you see on the street look like walking dead zombies on really strong drugs.
Natural selection is the force that’s always in play. Playing stupid games wins you stupid prizes, just like it always has. However, since the 1960’s the government has “compassionately” deferred the stupid prizes from being won by people who do stupid things, allowing them to reproduce unconstrained by basic concerns of providing for their children and social norms of expected behavior from parents.
And here we are today, with little talk of fixing root issues, but lots of talk about scapegoating the police.

Anyone else’s parents engrain the importance of doing EXACTLY what the police tell you to do, WHEN they tell you to do it? Why does it seem like this teaching has been lost to certain generations?
Police Officers are the only people in the US that can legally shoot you and walk free the next day… unless you do exactly as they say. Its really not that hard tbh
Do people actually believe that? Assuming exceptions to all rules exist is pretty safe. The actual percentage is somewhere around ten(edit: If we assume conservative=Republican…if we were to assume conservative=intolerance for homosexuals, the percentage would be higher…if we were to assume conservative=religious, the percentage would be higher, etc.).
i dont know your personal beliefs, but this entire response reads like a CNN/MSNBC sales pitch.
Conservative =/= Republican, they are simply the lesser of two evils.
Conservative =/= intolerance towards gays, we just dont need to be teaching it in schools. if you’re a productive member of society and a decent human being, most of us DGAF if you’re straight or gay. Just keep it in the bedroom please.
Conservative =/= religious, we just believe in religious freedom - whatever form that may be. For example: I’m not religious, but i sure as fuck dont want to be forced into practicing another religion.

There’s no solid definition of “conservative” when it comes to politics. It’s a pretty meaningless term nowadays. And how one defines it will have an effect on how many members of any group one can claim are conservative. Of course, the Neocons so love to pretend everyone else has merely been hoodwinked that they’ll say, “X needs water and calories to survive. That means X is a conservative.”
Edit: and all of the things I listed are seen as “conservative” by some. The percentage of black Republicans is very low. The percentage of blacks that don’t enthusiastically embrace homosexuals is higher. The percentage of blacks that are religious is higher(than the number of Republicans).
True, in some countries it means worker rights, in others it means low taxes and laisse faire business laws, etc.
In the USA, liberal used to mean you didn’t hate on long hairs or gays, and maybe favored some form of social health care. Now it can mean any form of batshit craziness you couldn’t dream up if you were sniffing glue…so now middle ground liberals appear to be lost in a space with no name between extremes of QAnon and pedo apologists. Conservative is better defined as libertarian right
Republican is better defined as authoritarian right
Liberal is better defined as authoritarian left (perspective, in reality it is still auth right, just less right than republican)
Top and Bottom refer to strength of government, left and right refer to government economic control
I should note that most of the things that have been brought up so far are social matters, not political - meaning they don’t have to be assigned to any one political affliction

No. Why would they assume I would ever get arrested? Besides, the idea that someone needs to be taught how to behave with the police says something about that person and/or how they were raised.
This is not true. Someone who shoots another legally, I assume this means justifiably, might not even get arrested.
you dont have to be arrested to have a police officer tell you what to do. Sounds like this struck a nerve with you, everything okay on the home front?
Regardless, you don’t need to be taught how to behave if, you already know how to behave. Those who act like douchebags when they have an interaction with cops, are typically douchebags in general.
