I agree…this seems a little sketchy. However, there is no mention on the hormonal changes an animal goes through depending on the food it eats, organic or not. As the saying goes, “You are what you eat.” well, a cow can eat “organic” grains all of it’s life, but the meat/milk will not be nearly as healthy as if that cow consumed grass, organic or not.
And if you walk into Whole Foods and ask for a piece of Salmon, you’ll find out that it is “farm raised.” And you wonder, how could something that is farm raised be considered organic? Well, because it’s fed organic grains! Well, anybody who knows anything will realize that the only way salmon has such a rich amount of omega 3’s is through what it eats, NOT through it’s natural bodily functions. So organic or not, you must read between the lines and make the decisions for yourself.
This study only measured for certain nutrient values. It did not account for the negative affects of pesticides or look for other levels of important nutrients. It also did not account for taste and other benefits as others have noted.
In short - this study and especially the journalists who wrote this piece say something the study itself does not…as usual, dumb-ass journalists get all wrong.
Another thing which bears common sense. When I compare a chicken that lived it’s entire life in a 1x1 cage eating grain or a chicken that I raised on my own (I raise chickens and provide a 1/4 acre for 15 birds at a time so they eat plenty of grass and bugs) the difference in meat quality from taste and visual appearance is remarkable. Same goes for eggs.
It just goes to say which would be better for you to eat. Imagine if you put a human in a 3x3 cage for all of his life an fed him grains - what kind of state would he be in? What kind of malaise would be developed from standing in your own crap for most of the day?
Organic food tastes miles better than other food. Poliquin was right, free range eggs are rich tasting with golden yolks. I get venison from my farmer’s market and it’s delicious compared to minced meat. Organic veggies? No contest!

Exactly why I buy organic.
When I buy a “regular” cucumber, it’s covered in some kind of fucking waxy coating. Not the organic ones, though.
We also buy organic beef (no hormones or antibiotics, and is grass fed), which I have found to be more delicious than the “regular” beef.
EDIT to add: It’s funny some people think it’s foolish to waste money on organic. When the real fool is one who trusts the the industry farm-factories with one’s health.
Did the people doing the study really expect organically grown food to really have a different macronutrient breakdown? The pro’s of organics are the absence of pesticides and hormones, potentially tasting better, sometimes more ethical treatment of animals, better diets for the animals, and more sustainable agriculture. The tomato isn’t magically going to have more vitamins in it.
“Organic vegetables are, of course, recommended, because they not only decrease your exposure to dangerous pesticides, but they have two to five times more nutrients as compared to non-organic vegetables. Most people agree that they also taste much better.”

These statements are false. Organic foods do NOT have more nutrients than non-organic, they do NOT decrease exposure to dangerous pesticides, and most people canNOT tell the difference between organic and non-organic. While we are at it, organic does NOT support small, local farms, and organic farming is NOT better for the environment than regular farming.
