Oil Rig Work

As far I know, Norwegian ones don’t require any experience. I was offered a position, through connections though, and I don’t even speak the language.

It was six months there with a very high salary.

I worked offshore before I decided to get edumucated but never gave the oil rigs a go. Work in anchor handling require work experience and a few different safety courses etc. I assumed the oil rigs did as well. Different countries, different rules I guess.

Do they have gyms on oil rigs?

Where do you live?

Bujo works rigs out of Louisiana, you could PM him.

How big are you and are you afraid to work fucking hard physical labor?

Some of the new offshore rigs do.

Yep! I worked on a crew some summers in college. The food was ridiculous. The newer rigs are actually nice too. Fantastic living quarters. And sometimes you can fish off the bottom of the little platforms. I can see how the lifestyle “gets down in your blood” as Robert Earl Keen says. No pussies out there, ridiculous money for blue collar labor (except for engineers and geophysical scientists of course) and weeks off were dirty, dirty parties.

Just for fun

I own a small (20 rig) drilling company in New Mexico. Have about 30 pulling units and frac units as well.

All you need is a strong back and the ability to pass a drug test.[/quote]

Done and Done, I currently live in Mass I would be thrilled to relocate can you help a brother out?

Sure, if you promise me you aren’t a Masshole Democrat, I’ll PM a group of names, the owner of one of which is me. Any are OK.

In fact, you could just drive to Hobbes, NM, Midland or Odessa, TX, or any of the other oil towns and have a job in a couple hours. They will want to look at you.

If you have a CDL, a strong back, no drugs, and don’t look like a OWS freak, the HR lady will blow you in her office. And swallow.

The drug test do not include steroids, BTW. pot, coke, meth, etc.

Learn a little Spanish.

You’d have to relocate to either West Texas, South Texas, or East New Mexico. Pay, with overtime, etc. is easily north $100,000 once you make Pusher (which you would in a year or so).

Everyone here is conservative. Even our Hispanics (who have been here 300 years) don’t like wetbacks and Democrats.

Everyone hates freeloaders.

And this is for land rigs, so it’s burritos, not steak and lobster.

Winter is a good time to get experience for a guy from Mass. The world will stop here if it hits 32 because no one knows what to do, so it will be like Spring for you.

Summers are brutal. 110-120 for months. You will want to die.

You won’t need a gym; I remember working the chain one summer in college and my deadlift went up from mid-400s to mid-600s in 3 months – and I didn’t touch a weight all summer.

Registered republican drug free hard worker just want a change and a chance to do real work

OK, send me the PM. I will hunt together some numbers for rig work, frac work, and the like.

I’ll see if I can find you some Oklahoma stuff. My friend owns a frac company there.

Bakkan is your other choice, up North. Be cold even for a MA guy.

I’ve got 8 years experience in the oil field. Land. Deepwater. International. I’ve done a bit of everything.

How old are you, and what kind of education to you have?

Check out rigzone.

Roustabout is a good entry level job offshore drilling rigs. Pay is $15-20 per hour. 13 hour days. A lot of companies are switching to a 21/21 schedule. 21 days offshore / 21 days at home. 14/14 is still pretty common. 28/28 or 32/32 is what you’ll get if you work international.

If you want to work offshore in the Gulf of Mexico you will need a TWIC card. Some companies will pay you to get it, but many of the smaller ones will require you to pay for it yourself. $100 -$125.

A passport is always good to have.

My tour is done. I give more info tomorrow.

Anybody have any connections or useful information for the Alberta Oil sands?

I’m thinking of taking a year off school and doing a one year stint if the money is good enough. I’m 22, strong, love hard work, could pass a drug test, and have 2 years of commerce done with a 3.8GPA. After high school I did 18 months of commercial construction(electrical) so I’m familiar around basic tools etc.

Thanks

It’s a perfect job in this economy. You should do it.

Wow, you guys! I was wondering if this was going to get any responses. Two pages blew me away.

I live in MN and would relocate anywhere. I’m open to working offshore or land based. I’ve got a friend of a friend working in oil (not a rig worker though) in Texas that I talked to today. I’d like to get a job before I relocate, but if I end up having to drive to Texas (or wherever) so that I can apply in person then I guess that’s what I will do.

Bujo, I’m 28. I’ve got 90 college credits (30 from community college, 60 from the University of Minnesota). I’m finding out I’m more interested in physical labor than office work though. I’m currently working for a tree service company (dragging brush, lifting logs, digging holes, chain saws, loaders). It’s good hard work, but it doesn’t pay shit. I’m smart, strong, and work hard.

ruffian, I’m ready to work! I’ll be PMing you.

Ruffian, I tried PMing you twice. Not sure if you got them. They didn’t show up in my sent messages.
