That’s not the conclusion I came to reading the author’s thoughts (nor is it the conclusion they presented).
Do you know what derivative it is? Just curious what we have decided not to process.
From my understanding we import a lot of the sulfur derivatives and middle distillates.
OPEC oil is very high in sulfur content.
The oil we have in the US is very light almost no sulfur and is great for producing light fuels like jet fuel, rocket fuel, and gasoline.
I am not an oil expert by any means, but I have a good friend that has been in the oil world for over 20 years and this is what he explained to me.
When the power plants that I worked fired their boilers on #6 fuel oil (residual oil), once the EPA got evolved, they were forced to purchase low sulfur oil, because they had no equipment to remove SO2 from the effluent. Sulfur was a pollutant long before CO2 became one.
I don’t know any use for high sulfur oil. Maybe someone else here does.
Lubricant for fuel pumps and injectors.
It is why diesels in the US have dropped in longevity and fuel systems grenade so frequently. All of the diesel fuel injector / fuel additive is really nothing but sulfur for lubrication.
DEF systems were supposed to remedy the need for using low sulfur diesel, but the EPA is retarded.
Europe has DEF systems, but still uses high sulfur diesel.
Yeah, that trumps my measly 5.0. I really hope Dodge keeps up the good work in Hellcating everything. And then there is the Hellelpahant. Get me a 70’s B body and toss one of those puppies in there, nothing would please me more. BUT GM just released their ZZ632. An NA 1000 hp big block that revs to 7000. On pump gas! So many choices! All it takes is money and air conditioning.
Even if I had a top fuel dragster, it would have a/c.
They never do. Post modernist /neo marxist types are not swayed by little frivolities, such as logic, reason, and reality.
I realize this is an old post that has branched in to discussions of socialism/big block engines and whatever else, but in a nutshell, oil carries production costs to retrieve from the ground. When govt restricts easy oil access (that was previously fair game) AND imposes limitations on existing operations, it’s not fair to blame the industry for lower output.
Time is required for new drilling sites too. They don’t just pop up over night. Most require years of forecasting and planning which isn’t going to happen in political uncertainty, especially if the govt begins denying drilling applications.
It would be akin to govt closing shipping ports and then blaming retailers for not having or marking up product.
