So what are you going to do about it?
Try and support movements/candidates that align with my ideas. Have discussions with people and share those ideas.

I am also a realist and know that there may not be anything I can do. That is why I am working 2 jobs and paying off all unsecured debt. I also am planning on buying a piece of land and raising animals and growing food, and attempting to become as self reliant as I can. I would have started this already if I didn’t have to move to California for 5 years. 2 1/2 years left until I get out of here.
Don’t forget to build a shelter in your basement and store up food and bullets.

LOL.
Nothing wrong with a self sustaining backup plan…

If any sort of serious pandemic or societal breakdown were to occur, you would be climbing his fence in search of sustenance.

I was about to jump in when you mistakenly said the federal reserve was part of the federal government, but I can’t bit my tongue on this.

Ayn Rand advocated individualized selfishness as a virtue. She claimed that socialism(s) always fail because the individual is selfish and will abuse the system for individual advantage. Her life, including dieing on medicare and social security, is actually the opposite of being hypocritical. It actually proves her point.

But even further she advocated a system without things like social security, she did not advocate not using it once a government has already made you pay for it. The 2 are not logically equivalent. And there is no hypocrisy in her getting what she can out of the system.
If i did say or imply that the Fed is a part of the Government you are correct in that it was a mistake on my part. It is a private entity and that is why it is so grotesque.

Also, I am certainly not arguing for pure socialism.

I have to disagree that there is no hypocrisy in getting what she can out of the system. It shows a lack of conviction in her own ideology. At least admit that she ended up that way because she was weak not because she had to contribute to social security and medicare. Why is being a martyr for your beliefs such an under valued act these days?

As for her actions proving her point, I can see what you are saying, she was a weak, and selfish, if that makes you happy I will contest that she stood by the selfish part of her philosophy in accepting the social services that only the weak would rely on. Wow what a hero.

Society without compromise or consideration for your fellowman or anything that might benefit the whole before simply benefiting yourself. What a beautiful world that would be. Someone should rewrite John Lennon’s Imagine with her ideals that would be great!
LOL, you mistake my convictions. I wasn’t defending her philosophy, only noting that she lived according to her beliefs and is in not a hypocrite in that regard.

As I said before, I agree with her on some issues and not on others. She is not my hero.

I don’t mean to sidetrack or hijack this thread, but a funny story happened here in Cali over the weekend, and it has some relevance to this thread…

So our worthless governor signed a union contract which is an unfunded $1 Billion liability to the prison guard union, who also donated $2 million to his election campaign.

Well, some news media got wind of it, and called the governor out on it. This was the guy who would balance the budget, stand up to unions, and all the other “walk on water” bullshit that you hear all politicians talk about.

Well the criticism got so bad, that the governor actually called the newsreporters and columnists and told them things like, “I am not a shark, I am not a conman, I am not a crook. Do you hear me, I AM NOT A CROOK!” One reporter responded with, “You do realize the last person who said that, don’t you Governor Brown?” (Nixon reference)

Moral of the story, never quote a president who resigned for shady behavior.

So here’s a funny story:

I saw the thread title and thought, “yeah, it’d be interesting to read peoples opinions about the current budget proposals.”

…Then I saw the OP went ahead and went full birther.

Ahh PWI… now I remember why I don’t post in here seriously any longer.

Oh, good point, good point. But, I have a better idea, I’m going to work on my upside down umbrella money catcher just in case it rains $100 bills. See that we’re both covered now.

I think there is even a better moral to that story. And that is when we have a press that is diligently doing its job you have an executive leader who cannot bamboozle the public. I wish the main stream liberal media called out Obama on everything from attending a racist church (for 22 years) to some of the con games played to pass health care. Just think there would be no controversy over anything if Obama actually had to divulge his grades, medical records and yes even the birth certificate just like all the other past Presidents. But, it’s so right wing of me to demand the same scrutiny for this character as we did for every other chief executive.

I just think there are better ways to spend your time and money than building bomb shelters stocked with food and ammunition. Call me crazy

Yes because that’s exactly what farming and raising animals as another form of sustenance is.

Christ, you are like Headhunter… only over the top in the opposite direction.

ZEB is this you in college??
UtahLama wrote:

That’s not the issue and you know it. Obviously is someone enjoys farming, gardening whatever then that is part of their lifestyle. What I am referring to are the nuts on this board who think the world is coming to an end and are actively planning on how to survive. THEY ARE CRAZY!

I’m going to let this slide and not retaliate because I like you and respect most of your posts. However, if you ever insult me like this again you will be off my Christmas card list and you can expect some incoming.

Haha, just never stop the fruitcake over the holidays!!! I loves it so.

For the record, there is such a thing as sounding like those survivor crazy’s… only in the opposite way.

example - "a global pandemic will NEVER happen, and you are nutso for doing any due diligence.

I hardly think that growing food and animals as a potential food source is crazy.

/I’m not Professor X…I don’t think you are Headhunter.
ZEB wrote:

My motives are not generated from a fear of a societal collapse. I did not say that I would be building a bomb shelter or stocking up on canned goods and ammo. Tell me about yourself Zeb, what has meaning for you? What is your purpose in life? Who are you exactly? How old are you? And where are you from?

I personally realize that I have a duty to take care of myself, my family, the world in which we live, and when I can the people to which I have contact. Having sustainable power from renewable sources like a solar hydrogen fuel cell, and knowing where my food comes from is something in which I put value. The fact of the matter is that not only do I think this is responsible, but it happens to also provides self sufficiency, which affirms that this is the correct thing to do for me. I know that seems like a self fulfilling prophecy and very simplistic logically, but obviously fear is the most obvious explanation which you saw and it is a very insulting conclusion. I think that for many writing off others based on those types of assumptions is easier than realizing that ones own behaviors may need evaluation. Tell me you didnâ??t see Texas and just assume I am some ammo, canned food hording idiot? Reveal some more about yourself so I can play the assumption game as to why you are a self-righteous, condescending, snarky, non-identifier. Obviously fear motivates your behavior as you are unwilling to be known on the forums in which you spend so much of your time.
