So you are still holding Clinton and Frank to blame for the current financial crisis? How did this impact your vote? Oh wait…
Okay, and during the last eight years, the Bush administration, especially when it had an agreeable congress, was powerless to do anything… or to fix any policies that might have been considered misguided.
Good to know, I thought he had some measure of power.
No. Bush is to blame too. His liberal ownership society crap deserves alot of blame, indeed. So does the Fed.
Bingo. Liberalism hasn’t worked. Artificially elevated prices pushed by unqualified buyers. Deficit spending on the part of the government as well as personal debt is a disaster. Conservative growth with selective measured risk.
Bush was not great. He was not to blame 100% either.
Obama is a charmer. He’ll have my support

Do it the easy way. Don’t socialize risk. No implicit guarantees, no bailouts.
Nowhere did I suggest socializing risk. The insurance industry runs fine today, and the risk isn’t socialized. Governments create the rules in which markets flourish… at least in western democracies.
The guarantees and the bailouts are a reaction to a problem, not the root of the problem – though you could certainly decide that the entire economy should tank for ideological reasons, even though it would hurt the majority of the populace.

Wasn’t CRA rife with guarantees? Have we not bailed out the “we’re too big fail!” folks in the past? In fact, your last sentence is part of the problem. “Can’t let the market work it out, too painful!” And they know it, and take risks they wouldn’t in a truly free-market.
If the economy is going to tank, it will. All you can do is put it off, but then it’s almost certain to hurt far worse. And, and if anything, regulate the Fed.

The issue of the current bailouts is not an attempt to stop an economic downturn. It’s to stop the collapse of the entire financial system on a worldwide basis.
There is a difference.
Not many people are salivating at the thought of another great depression…

Funny that, “another Great depression” when we’re talking about intervention in the market.
Edit: Oh, and I definitely don’t buy “an entire financial collapse.” Maybe it’ll lead to one if we keep propping up the losers with money we don’t have.

If obama does get elected all you fools that voted for him will get exactly what you deserve. Unfortunately, you are taking me down with you…
You’ve been living in fantasyland for the past 8 years. You guys defended everything Bush did. And we ALL suffer because of it.
You can take your avatar down now. Your fantasy is OVER.

Quite the contrary actually… most conservatives were pretty outspoken against the fiscal policies and spending of the republicans over the last 8 years. You apparently ignored most posts around here lately.

The matter of him getting reelected had a lot more to do with other policies of his. Take for example the evangelical and war votes.
When you say they defend everything does that take into account his 30-35% approval rating?

Actually those were Iron Dwarf’s words…not mine…but I do think it became a “barrel of crabs” situation once shit hit the fan between Bush campaign and “real” conservative base.
I actually have a slight sympathy for Bush…they should of never tried to push him as a real conservative in the first place.
