Obama on O'Reilly 9-4-08

Part 2 tonight at 8

Don’t miss it.

Honest journalists are a lot like unicorns. There’s a lot of talk about them, but have you ever seen one for yourself?

I haven’t. And for my money - even though I don’t like him - I’d much rather have O’Reilly doing the Opie interview than I would Ken Olberman.

How did Part 1 go?

I think there are a few out there, like Jim Lehrer. I would like to see more of them.

I see reporters as different from commentators. Reporters should be as unbiased and evenhanded as possible in reporting the news. Commentators are free to be as radical as they like. Hopefully commentators from both extremes are equally represented by the media giving the commentators access to the airwaves.

Russert was alright.

I agree though. Of the available choices, Worse than O’Reilly can definitely be had. Most of them would be hugging his ankles begging for absolution.

O’Reilly isn’t a journalist and his commentary isn’t news. He is a mouthpiece for the people who believe as he does. No one watches FOX commentaries (or any others, for that matter) to have their opinions swayed. They watch because they get off on O’Reilly’s bombastically agonizing buffoonery.

Watching him fume and sputter in a serious discussion with actual informed and eloquent guests is like watching a one-legged cat trying to bury a turd on a frozen pond – in other words, his show is for the Monster Truck Rally crowd.

Any points that he may be able to make by virtue of his correctish ideology are lost by his inability to engage in a civil debate. But hey, he’s found a formula for success and has cashed in all his credibility – whatever may have been there to begin with – and is laughing all the way to the bank.

Hmmm… I never watch the news, but perhaps it’s time I know what this nimrod sounds like. I have read he’s bad off the cuff. I just don’t know if I can bring myself to watch a news channel. Wait! Isn’t there a college game on tonight?
You mean there are people in the US who actually believe FOX is a news channel?

O’Rielly isn’t stupid, he’s just intellectually careless/dishonest. Ego manifested through self-righteousness comes before all else with him.
I can agree with that. OK. I take it back, he’s not stupid. He’s what etaco said.

Well, since their ratings blow the other channels away, I would say MOST PEOPLE DO.

I’d agree. I like Russert (RIP, sad loss) and Lehrer a lot.

And it’s true–commentators can say whatever they want. Journalists should be unbiased. It’s just that no one knows what’s what anymore.

And yes, I’d rather have O’Reilly than Olberman, because for all his many many faults, he does press his interviewees with tough questions (generally).

To which he promptly and completely ignores the answers. And then he cuts the guy off, gets angry, or starts to act like the interviewee is pathetic by laughing a little and patronizing him.

Great journalism there. <_<

Still, he is lulzy.

He is, however, handing obama his own ass. So for what ever kind of condescending cocksucker he may be, he is useful at times.

What he needs is a canon sized joint.

It was pretty clear that Obama does not understand tax rates vs revenue or he just does not care, but can’t really say that.

I never called him a good journalist. Only that he does in fact press his interviewees most of the time. I view this as a good thing, independent of his incredible hubris and intellectual carelessness. I still don’t watch him.

Obama showed his socialist tendencies last night.

Yes he did…The sad part is that up until that moment he didn’t realize that’s what he is doing. He had this “ah ha” look, or rather “oh shit” look on his face when he was called out on it. Like up until that moment he didn’t know he was sponsoring wealth redistribution. He just thought it was the neighborly thing to do. My neighbor can get a fucking job if he want’s money, that’s the way I see it.

The best news is that this shit is available on the web the next day and didn’t have to give up Monday night football…Aaron Rodgers looked good too. I think Green Bay will be just fine.

Part 2 of the interview is up
